Short Review | Mixups by POWGI

LifeisXbox’s Mixups by POWGI review | If you’re looking for a new puzzle game, then developer Lightwood Games might have just the game for you. Mixups by POWGI is their latest addition on Xbox regarding the ‘by POWGI’ puzzle series. Lightwood Games releases these puzzle games every few months, and titles like One Word by POWGI, Word Sudoku by POWGI, and Cryptop by POWGI have preceded this latest title.

This is a short review, our usual the good, mixed and the bad was difficult because of the nature of this game. Maui played Mixups by POWGI for 3 hours on Xbox Series X. This game is also available on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, PlayStation Vita and 4.

I enjoy an occasional puzzle game, and I used to be a sucker for those Sudoku, word search, etc games in the papers. I was even the kind of person that bought full books filled with those puzzles! Unfortunately, I lost my love for puzzles somewhere along the way, but maybe Mixups by POWGI can help me find it back!

Mixups by POWGI is a mixed-up anagram puzzle where you get a bunch of letters that you have to connect in order to end up with three words per puzzle. Deciphering those three words may sound rather easy, but I’m here to burst your bubble and tell you that it is not. Having your brain work through all those wild letters and trying to see which ones fit together was much harder than I initially anticipated. There’s a wide range of themes to choose from, including colors, pizza toppings, pets, girls’ names, body parts, and mythological creatures. Every theme has 6 puzzles in it, and you can play any theme you want at any time. I like that there was no unlocking system in place and I could just switch between puzzles whenever I wanted. In total, Mixups by POWGI offers 600 puzzles, so you’ll be good for a while. However, if English isn’t your native language, this game might get a little hard at times. I know my English is pretty good, and still, I ended up having to fill in words I never heard off (yes, I had to turn to the internet during those challenging times). You can ask for hints but those only reveal the first letter of a word, but the hint button only worked half of the time for some reason. Some themes had the same words two times, so that was a bit of a bummer too.

Mixups by POWGI is the first game in the series that I tried out. And I’m pretty sure I started with one of the most difficult ones. Still, Mixups is a fun and challenging game for those lucking for a digital puzzle game!
