Review | Crazy Athletics – Summer Sports & Games

LifeisXbox’s Crazy Athletics – Summer Sports & Games review | Tomorrow a new and challenging game called Crazy Athletics – Summer Sports & Games releases on multiple platforms. This sports game is developed by Crazysoft Limited, which is a solo project from Cyprus. During the game, you will compete in different summer games, such as running, swimming, high/long jump, and a couple more. So on your marks, get set, go and enjoy this review.

This is a short review, our usual the good, mixed and the bad was difficult because of the nature of this game. Reviewed on Xbox Series X | Review code provided by PR/publisher, this review is the personal opinion from the writer.

Crazy Athletics is a game where you go through 10 different maps and compete in a total of 80 athletic games. The events you compete in vary from just a single 100-meter dash to a competition where you have to swim, run and throw a spear. In total there are 10 different sports that can be played although I should mention that running takes up 3 slots with different distances and swimming takes up 2 so there are 6 actual different sports.

In order to participate, you have to press certain buttons at a given moment, like in Guitar Hero. Pressing the right button at right time will give you a score ranging from -100 to OK to +100 depending on when you press it. You want to get as close as possible to OK to gain the biggest advantage although I found out that this isn’t necessarily true. I had games where I scored between -20 and +20 (which is pretty decent) and I totally ruined my run and when I messed up and my scores ranged between -85 and +85 I won the event. I found this to be very frustrating because when you actually want to play the game the way it was designed to, it doesn’t work. Another big bug that I found was while doing the High Jump event. I had to jump over a given height and I went above it, but I still failed the game? This is both frustrating and annoying, really.

But Michael, isn’t there anything food about this game? Well, the game has its good points. The multiplayer option is fun. Here you can compete against 3 friends so when you are having a game night it’s a lovely game to play. Even when you are playing solo a second player can join and try to give you a more favorable wind so run a bit faster or throw a bit further.

Furthermore, the game looks really good. It is designed in cartoony 2D graphics with a high resolution so that’s really enjoyable and the fact that there are a lot of small indie songs (100+) in this game makes it even more fun to listen to. The one thing I dislike about it is that when you finish an event the song that is playing stops abruptly and a new song starts playing. I also felt like I couldn’t really enjoy the art style to the fullest because you have to focus completely on the small bar on the screen, so you press the buttons at the right time.

VERDICT
50 out of 100%

Crazy Athletics – Summer Sports & Games looks and sounds really good which makes the game more enjoyable than the gameplay does. The score system/controls don’t work properly which makes up for a frustrating experience. If this is fixed in a future update it will be okay but for now, it’s just spam push buttons and hope for the best.
