REVIEW | Make Way

We love all sorts of games. Sometimes it is hard to cover a game in our traditional review style that’s why we have tidbit-style reviews. These shorter reviews cover games that deserve attention too but simply don’t fit our good, mixed, and bad template. In addition, they get a monthly summary article to give them even more reader attention!

What if we let players make the race track while racing? That is the idea that Ice BEAM perfectly executed with Make Way. You start a race and reach a checkpoint, now every player (4) selects a random track piece. Loops, runways with explosives, hairpins and many more pieces can be picked and placed. That gameplay repeats a few times. We race, expand the race track, race, expand the race track, etc…

This type of game is hilariously fun to play with friends! If a player is removed from the topdown camera he or she is eliminated and won’t receive points for that checkpoint. You’ll see that everyone drops being careful and with the floaty driving physics you’ll have some hilarious moments. I do regret how the scoring system works, when a player reaches the required score the game doesn’t immediately ends. Most of the time other players can still reach the target score too and a sudden death happens. It would have made more sense that the player who reaches the score simply wins…

While talking about Make Way it is impossible not to mention Micromachines, take away the track building and it is exactly the same. That’s fine for me as it introduces many new things. With each finished race you’ll earn EXP and unlock new things to use for building tracks. Great to keep the motivation up for playing multiple rounds of Make Way.
