Eyes on the Week(end) (8-10 April)

Time to look back on the weekend! What did Friday, Saturday, and Sunday look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from last week and what are we looking forward to? These three questions will be answered in our Eyes on the Week(end) article!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Not a whole lot of gaming to be had this weekend unfortunately as my shoulder has started to play up once again. I did return to The Ascent and was enjoying my time until I disappointedly remembered why I stopped playing in the first place – the Xbox error which comes up stating I’m ‘Out of video memory’ that immediately crashes your game and sends you back to your home screen. I did pick up my new Oculus Quest 2 which I can’t wait to start playing! Any horror game recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I watched Lewis play all weekend because I just couldn’t physically play so I’m extremely thankful for him.

Most exciting news of last week: Nothing has caught my attention this week.

Looking forward to playing this week: Will You Snail?, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Explosive Candy World, DC Universe Online, The Ascent, Tunic, State of Decay 2

The coronis got me last week so I was pretty sick. Luckily, when the weekend knocked at my door, I was feeling slightly better and could finally enjoy gaming again! Since I couldn’t really go anywhere, I had plenty of time to game. I tried the Kirby and the Forgotten Lands demo on my Switch and I am currently very tempted to buy this one! I also started playing Slay the Spire on Xbox. For a deckbuilding and card game fan, it’s really a shame that I had never played this game before. As expected, I absolutely love it! I am currently still doing my first run and I’m at the third level (?) so that’s pretty exciting. I cannot wait to further explore this one! I also dived back into Diablo III. This is one of the games that really got me into gaming back when it was released. Back then, I completed the base game on PC so now I have the eternal version on my Switch and I’m having an absolute blast playing it again! Besides playing these games, I also gamed a little for review purposes. Most of my time was spent in Catie in Meowmeowland, which is basically the most bizarre game I’ve ever played but it’s fun! Stay tuned for the review this week. I also played Imp of the Sun for a review. Haven’t gotten far yet, but also quite an enjoyable game!

Most exciting news of last week: The announcement of the two new Kingdom Hearts games for sure!  Happy Birthday, KH!

Looking forward to playing this week: Definitely some more Diablo III!

Busy weekend so not a lot of time for games, but I managed to get my daily drumming in Taiko no Tatsuijin and also played Agent Intercept for my upcoming review. It’s a mobile port to Xbox and surprisingly didn’t have great performance, but still managed to entertain. The full review will be up soon!

Most exciting news of last week: It was the 20th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts and they dropped the trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4! While I wasn’t super excited about the new graphics engine, the Endor setting teasing Star Wars content was very promising.

Looking forward to playing this week: I’m nearing the finish line on Elden Ring and really want to push through so I can get back to other games.

This weekend I played some After The Fall VR which is essentially Left 4 Dead but up close and personal. It’s made by the same team who made Arizona Sunshine. It’s a great little zombie shooter with a fairly meaty campaign, deathwatch multilayer and a good upgrade system for weapons where you get to manually build and attach your upgrades to your weapon yourself on an upgrade bench. I have also been playing a lot of BoomBox VR which is going to be a review title, so stay tuned for that. But essentially what we have here is a pretty cool adaptation of Beat Saber. Not much else was played this weekend.

Most exciting news of last week: Since I’m a tech guy the April 2022 Xbox system update now added support for HDMI-CEC which is a really useful feature if you have multiple devices plugged into your TV.

Looking forward to playing this week: Walkabout Mini Golf VR & Bodies of Water VR

I’ve finally completed LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga this weekend. While it’s not my favourite game in the LEGO video game series, I did really enjoy it! One thing that I found really disappointing though, was the 100% completion reward – it is probably the lamest in the series… I also played some Human: Fall Flat with one of my friends on Sunday. That game never fails to make us laugh.

Most exciting news of last week: While Stewart Copeland (the composer of the original classic Spyro soundtrack) was initially going to release the Spyro soundtrack on April 1st, due to some issues with Spotify, he announced that it should come out on May the 4th. (Which is coincidentally also on Star Wars day)

Looking forward to playing this week: Now that I’ve finally completed the Skywalker Saga, I’ll probably hop onto Dead by Daylight again. I may also try to hunt a few more achievements on Hitman!

I played a few hours of Weird West, which is the next game I’m reviewing, and I’m happy to say that it’s been pretty great so far! I’m not going to go into details since I’m reviewing it soon, but there are devs that worked in Dishonored that worked in it, and there are some cool similarities with Dishonored. Also played a little bit of Overwatch, only mystery heroes which is part of the arcade mode though, which is my favorite game mode in it, actually had fun instead of stressing out a lot, which was pretty nice.

Most exciting news of last week: It’s kind of cheating since this happened on Sunday, which is the first day of the week, but Kingdom Hearts IV being announced is definitely the most interesting thing that happened to me recently.

Looking forward to playing this week: Continuing Weird West, playing a game I’m previewing soon and maybe playing someone else if I have the time for it.

Whether you believe me or not, I’m still quite busy in Elden Ring. My faith character Marianne has made her way to Leyndell at this point and has been dragging her feet clearing the place out. Preferring to go through her edgy phase she joined and did quite some work for the Volcano Manor. Radahn and Godrick have also had their great runes confiscated. I’m not yet sure what Ending I’ll go for this time around since I’m still deciding between following the teachings of the Noble Goldmask or helping Godfrey; the first of the dead. Besides that, I’ve also played some more Shredders on my Xbox Series S. Now that the movement clicked I’m shredding harder than before. That doesn’t mean I don’t respawn a lot of the time. I’m pretty sure I’ll soon unlock a new mountain made of the clones I flung to their doom.

Most exciting news of last week: The BAFTA’s happened, and lots of games won a slew of awards. Returnal came home with several prizes, chiefly among them the one for best game. No Mans Sky is also still receiving prizes way after its less than stellar launch in 2016. Now they brought home the prize for evolving game.

Looking forward to playing this week: I’ve not got any concrete plans. I’ll be playing The Fertile Crescent for a preview. And maybe pick up Tales of Arise (review by Alexis) again to finish it.
