Eyes on the Week (31st July – 4th August)

Time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

I barely had enough energy to play video games this week because I’ve been struggling immensely with my exhaustion and migraines. Dead by Daylight has been my main game but it’s gradually losing its current appeal – I’m hopeful that will all change with the summer BBQ event and when the Alien chapter is released! I really hope it ends up being a stealth killer and we need motion detectors to reveal its location because that would be amazing to engage with.

Sadly, Resident Evil 5 has now become a slow burner with most of the remaining achievements being multiplayer-related now. I still need to upgrade all the weapons, get 30 kills with the Gatling Gun, and go back to one of the DLCs for a missed achievement but I can see things becoming slightly more tedious the longer it takes. I’m still hopeful to get it completed though!

Most exciting news of this week: The Alien Chapter being announced for Dead by Daylight is incredible – two of my favourite horrors combined into one. Also, the Stormcloud Vapor controller is quite eye-catching.

Looking forward to playing: I’m going to dip into numerous games for my TA medals if I have the energy – too many to mention.

Finally managed to free some time to play some games! Finding a healthy balance between work and personal life is essential, don’t forget that! I finished Bright Lights of Svetlov and my review will be published in the coming days. I played a lot of Exoprimal, simply adore the healing classes! Progressed a little with Marsupilami: Hoobadventure, The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf and Figment 2.  Just started Venba too, learning more about Indian cookware and dishes.

Most exciting news of this week: I guess Microsoft visited Square with an envelope with money again. As suddenly they seem to be closest friends.

Looking forward to playing: Exoprimal and starting The Expanse.

Still playing Final Fantasy XVI, but I’m nearing the end. Even managed to kill an end-game S-rank hunt without too much trouble. (you can watch the video here)

I also beat Venba in a single setting and then played through the entire game again the very next day to clean up the final achievements. It’s a heartfelt story about different cultures and their customs and food. It takes only 1h30 to beat and is on Xbox Game Pass, so there is no excuse not to give it a go.

Lastly, I tried the BOTI: Byteland Overclocked demo on Gameround. It’s coming to PC soon, with maybe the Switch version releasing soon after, but I hope it will launch on Xbox as well so I can go for a 100% completion run. (Check my video here)

Most exciting news of this week: Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Xbox, as are more Square Enix Titles. I guess the Pixel Remasters are as good as certain, but I wonder what it means for 7 Remake and XVI down the line.

Looking forward to playing: Finishing A Short Hike, which just arrived on Xbox Game Pass.

Colombo

I’m still playing Eastward, I think I’m about halfway through it, and I’m still enjoying it quite a bit.

Most exciting news of this week: Final Fantasy XIV coming to Xbox.

Looking forward to playing: Continuing Eastward, and possibly playing something else if I manage to finish it by the end of next week.

Thomas

It feels like yesterday since I sat down to write last week’s eyes on. I didn’t get a lot of time to myself, but what I got I spent either in Final Fantasy XIV unlocking new spells for the Blue Mage class, or doing my dailies on Honkai Star Rail.

I did set some time aside on Thursday to play Baldur’s Gate 3 like probably so many others have. I bought it back when it first came to Steam early access and waited for a good moment to jump in and try it. What better moment than when it’s fully complete am I right?

Most exciting news of this week: That’ll be the Baldur’s Gate 3 release. Hat’s off to you Larian, you’ve outdone yourself on this one.

Looking forward to playing: Anything really, would be nice if I could get on top of stuff soon.

Stu

Hi everyone. This week I have been getting back into the gaming groove. I played a bit of Final Fantasy 7 for the 100th time, started Tales Of Arise and I went back onto Grand Theft Auto V to try and boost some achievements on that, in particular the Solid Gold one which is proving to be a tough nut to crack.

Most exciting news of this week: As with everyone the news that Final Fantasy XIV is coming to Xbox finally, I’m not into MMOs usually but I obviously am a massive fan boy for FF so I’m going to try it out also in a much larger context it may be a sign that the fund between Square Enix and Xbox may be at an end which could maybe bring Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy Remake/Rebirth I’m possibly just living in faint hope but at least this gives me hope of these games on Xbox.

Looking forward to playing: I have been told good things about Exoprimal so I am keen to check that game out in the near future.

Missi

Just like Stu, I’m trying to get back into the gaming groove. My work has been moving locations for the past week and before and still to this day it is a bit chaotic, busy, and stressful so I didn’t have the energy to play games the past 2 weeks.  Have been gaming again for 3 days.

I’m still working on Dros, almost at the end of it! A lovely game that has a fun story and looks so good.  And the humor is right up my alley. I’ve also been playing Dave the Diver, but will dive a little bit more into that in the news part below this.

I’ve tried out PixelJunk Scrappers Deluxe and I love the idea and the gameplay. however, it seems not to be doable to play this solo. I wasn’t able to get the highest needed score on the first few levels, which means I haven’t unlocked enough stars to progress further. I do recommend it if you have the option to play regularly with the same person, as it was a lot of fun.

Most exciting news of this week: I watch yesterday the newest update of Dave the Diver on YouTube and I’m so glad to hear they will add an option to make the button mashing optional! I enjoy Dave the Diver so much, but hated the button mashing and also had the feeling that this would destroy my Xbox controller, or even worse my Steamdeck on which I mostly played Dave the Diver. So I’m glad to hear they heard the community and are giving the people who didn’t like that part the option to turn it off.

Looking forward to playing: More Dros and Dave the Diver.
