Eyes on the Week (15th-19th August)

Time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Not much played for me this week as I spent my time relaxing and just getting my thoughts together. I have returned to Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master, which can be found on Xbox Games Pass, to slowly make progress towards its completion as the title is known to be quite grindy. It has allowed me to continue my daily achievement streak also. Yesterday, I played Remothered: Tormented Fathers, bought it recently while it was on sale, and managed to finish the game. It did have me crouching almost every second because I hate being chased in video games – especially when the music really ramps up the atmosphere. However, strangely I’m fine when I play Dead By Daylight. I think it was because of it being an AI character and not someone controlling them. I’ve also finished writing my review for DreadOut 2 today which can be viewed [HERE].

Most exciting news of this week: Seeing that Death Stranding has been confirmed to be coming to PC Xbox Games Pass has really surprised me and definitely has me considering a PC if I’m honest. I’m also interested in Immortals Fenyx Rising coming to Xbox Games Pass in the near future.

Looking forward to playing: More Taiko no Tatsujin, Agents of Mayhem, and perhaps Battlefield 2042 or MotoGP, seen as I didn’t play this last week.

Educating clowns, cooks or in general students. I’m obviously talking about Two Point Campus! You start and hours fly by, an incredibly addictive experience. The only thing that pulled me away was Way of the Hunter as I’m writing a review for that next week.

Most exciting news of this week: Embracer made another powerful gaming move with new acquisitions. They are casually buying the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit rights too. Crazy how they went from bankruptcy to a buying spree that rivals Tencent and Microsoft.

Looking forward to playing: Nothing to see here.

My entire focus over the past week was on Bright Memory Infinite for a review and Two Point Campus. I absolutely love building my own schools, and it’s going way better than building hospitals lol. Other than that, I, unfortunately, haven’t had a lot of time to enjoy gaming.

Most exciting news of this week: news around Diablo 4 only made me more excited about it. I cannot wait to play a Diablo game again!

Looking forward to playing: More Two Point Campus for sure! But also Zookeeper, a new game I’m reviewing!

I’ve been playing A Tale of Paper: Refolded for my review, a charming platformer with a few cool ideas, that sadly got held back because of some technical issues (which I have a suspicion has the porting company as the one to blame and not the developers themselves.) nevertheless I had my fun with it and I’ll surely go back for the 1000G.

I also started playing Othercide, an amazing mix of Turn Based Strategy and rogue-lite elements drenched in an awesome-looking black & white aesthetic with red highlights. Super addicting and very challenging.

Most exciting news of this week: Embracer buying even more studios and IPs, including Tripwire, Limited Run Games and the rights to the Lord of the Rings franchise.

Looking forward to playing: Zorya: The celestial sisters. a Co-op game on Switch that I’m playing with my little girl, it’s always nice to discover games together.

This week, I’ve finally gotten a PlayStation 5! And oh boy, this is kinda nostalgic. Haven’t played on a PlayStation since the PS3, which seems like forever ago. Now, what games have I been playing on it? Well, I mostly want to keep my Xbox for Xbox exclusives alongside other games, while I wanna use my Switch and PS5 for their exclusives only (and games that I really, really adore, like Spyro [Which has a history of being a PlayStation exclusive anyway]).

Now, to start off, I played Ghosh of Tsushima (and I am still struggling to pronounce it correctly). And man, so far, I love this game! Its combat feels good, challenging and fun! The visuals look great, and the collectibles don’t feel as boring and repetitive to find as in other games (for the time being).

I also couldn’t wait, so I started Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS5! Why not on PC? Well… I’m a console gamer, and the game originates from the PlayStation. And besides, Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2 are still exclusives for the foreseeable future.

Aaanndd… I also started The Last of Us Remastered. Don’t ask me why I couldn’t wait another 2-3 weeks for the remake, please don’t. I just wasted all of my money on the console itself, no way I can afford a €70,00 remake of a game that I got for free with PS Plus at the moment. Now, I haven’t played the campaign yet (well, only be intro). However, I have been playing its multiplayer! I was worried that the servers would go dead once the remake releases, but… euhm… anxiety head. I just want to make sure that I can get a Platinum trophy on there, heh.

Most exciting news of this week: Nothing really interesting that caught my attention this week!

Looking forward to playing: I should be able to finish Marvel’s Spider-Man campaign today, and hopefully, I can get those fancy side-missions and collectables done in the coming days! Also looking forward to playing some more Ghost of Tsushima, and perhaps I may try its multiplayer out (if the servers aren’t dead [Argg… stop worrying])! And finally, I may get started with the actual The Last of Us Remastered campaign after I finish Marvel’s Spider-Man!

I forgot to mention I played a couple of Saints Row The Third‘s DLCs with a friend on last eyes on the week post, I also managed to play two more missions of GTA IV this week. I started playing Castle of Secrets for an upcoming preview, its concept is pretty interesting but I’m not too sure about its execution yet, keep an eye out for the preview to find out more about it.

Most exciting news of this week: Embracer buying Tripwire, Limited Run Games, Middle-earth Enterprises and 3 more studios.

Looking forward to playing: More Castle of Secrets, and GTA IV and hopefully starting out my next review game.

This week in gaming has been one of tying up loose ends in Final Fantasy XIV, the game you might have noticed won’t let me go as of late. I’ve now actually hit the final main story quest included in the free trial and levelled all my crafters up to the trial level cap of 60. At the time of writing, I finally cast my line over to the fishers guild and started levelling that. With a bit of dedication, I can get that up to 60 before I leave for Gamescom on Tuesday.

Aside from the above, I played some Super Smash Bros Ultimate online matches for the first time ever on Tuesday. My friends and I will be holding a smash tournament among ourselves, and I’m aiming for first place.

Most exciting news of this week: It rained again! The dry season is over! What games? I didn’t pay much attention to gaming news this week. Sorry…

Looking forward to playing: Lots of game demos at Gamescom next week.
