Eyes on the Week (12th – 16th December)

Time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

This week I’ve been spending time with Lewis and we’ve played a few horror games that we had been saving to play together. We started with The Quarry and decided I would control the female characters and Lewis would control the male characters’ decisions. I enjoyed the story, action sequences, and many different theories I thought about along the way; only two main characters died too which I thought wasn’t bad. I’m looking forward to another playthrough and trying the movie mode too when I have time to spare. We then moved onto The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me but haven’t completed the first playthrough yet. One character has died already so that was pretty upsetting but we’re determined to keep everyone else alive! I completed the game Starlight Shores which is a visual novel and I haven’t played one in some time. I got a few achievements while playing a couple of games in Among Us. Lastly, I continued my playthrough of The Walking Dead: Definitive Edition where I’m currently at Season 2: Chapter 5. I think I’ve made the right decisions for the majority of the game but I’m interested to see how they’ll affect the final season. I’ve watched Lewis play multiple other games too so it’s been a non-stop gaming marathon his week – besides when I’ve been attacked by migraines.

Most exciting news of this week: The Xbox Countdown Sale which went live today. Make sure you don’t miss out on any deals; you’ve got until 2nd January 2023 so any Christmas money could come in handy!

Looking forward to playing: I would like to finish Season 2 of The Walking Dead, start Chameneon, possibly start Life is Strange: True Colours, and finish our playthrough of The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me. Oh, and finish any outstanding reviews for the remainder of the year.

I first beat The Callisto Protocol and as you can read in my review; I was not very happy with the final result. The game had a very strong opening and I was already preparing a debate against all the naysayers until I kept playing and had to agree more and more the closer I got to the credits.

On Monday, I started playing Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion and I fell head over heels in love with the universe again. I’ve never had the chance to play the PSP original and always thought that was a shame. while you can tell this is a handheld port (the gameplay loop is intended for short bursts) it’s still an amazing remaster and a must-play for any Final Fantasy fan. It’s just such an incredible nostalgia trip and I feel like a giddy 14-year-old binging on his favourite JRPG over the holidays. I’m one happy camper!

Most exciting news of this week: The Game Awards took place last week and news like Hades 2 and getting Castlevania content for Dead Cells are right up my alley!

Looking forward to playing: More Crisis Core, I’m gonna go for the 1000G and this and continue my review!

This week I have mainly played the Hunt: Showdown Christmas event. There is a new map, new weapons, new skins & lots of goodies up for grabs. This has become my go-to game of 2022 after taking a break from it last year. The guns have all been balanced now to give everyone an equal playing field & I love dropping into other regions & showing people how it’s done.

Other than that I also played the first 2 hours of High On Life. As a huge fan of Justin Roiland, I am happy to report it’s a solid game with lots of laughs. The aliens are all quirky and have their own deep-rooted personalities, boss fights have depth to them & are engaging. Honestly, this is a massive win for Xbox Game Pass holders.

Most exciting news of this week: Spiderman 2 from Insomniac getting a release window!

Looking forward to playing: Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.

I played Relicta, I think I’m not far from finishing it, and I’m glad the story became better as the game progressed. Other than that, I played Hidden Shapes: Animals + Lovely Cats and Until the Last Plane both for reviews, you can read the first one on our tidbits [HERE] and the other one [HERE]. Finally, I managed to play a tiny bit of Dead by Daylight, didn’t play GTA IV this week, but I’m still not done with both of its DLCs.

Most exciting news of this week: I only discovered it Thursday, but Beholder 3 has apparently just been released.

Looking forward to playing: More Dead by Daylight, some GTA IV DLC again, and finishing up with Relicta, I could also play something else, but I’m not sure if I will or even what game.

Thomas

Since I was away from home for the week, I didn’t get up to anything significant gaming-wise this week.

I took Pokémon Violet with me and managed to wrap up all the story threads. Pokémon has never been a game series with top-tier stories, but I’m having to suspend my disbelief harder than usual this time for the finale of the story. I’ll now be finishing up my Pokedex and exploring Area 0. Maybe go for a spot of shiny hunting.

In Final Fantasy XIV, I wrapped up the Omega raids storyline. I’m impressed to see such a story unfold in just 12 quests and corresponding boss fights. Now that I’m home again I’ll be getting the alliance raids out of the way so I can swing wide the gates that hold the Shadowbringers expansion.

Most exciting news of this week: Nothing big really caught my eye. Final Fantasy XIV has its Starlight festivities and another round of rare items up to trade with the irregular tomestone moogle. So excuse me as my catgirl farms dungeons for the currency dressed as Santa Paws.

Looking forward to playing: A good friend of mine finally got his PC fixed after several months, so we’ll be doing some group Phasmophobia and Sea of Thieves antics for sure.

Stu

This week and the last couple have been tough with my broken wrist but I have managed a few games of Among Us.

Most exciting news of this week: Hades 2 announcement at the VGAs.

Looking forward to playing:  FF7: Crisis Core is on my Christmas Shopping list. From me to me.

I got to play Lil Gator Game, such an awesome and relaxing game, it reminds me a lot of “A Short Hike”. but this is even more adorable. It was so much fun to play through this. And extra kudos for such a stress-free achievement list.

I also made a start on Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur Prince, this title takes me back in time to the time of the GameBoy when I played games like the old 2d Zelda and “Mystic Quest”. I have so much fun with it but expect to complete it this weekend.

I also was able to play a bit more Togges, what an awesome game! It is so big and there is so much to do. And the developer does an amazing job of smashing those pesky bugs as soon as they come up.

Most exciting news of this week: I agree with Stu; it is great news to hear Hades 2 is in the makes.

Looking forward to playing: Not finished with Blossom Tale 2 and Togges yet and they will keep me busy for a few more days.
