Review: Food Truck Simulator

Review: Food Truck Simulator

A game where you can manage a food truck, drive around a town, redesign the truck and you also get to make the food? Sign me up!! I genuinely was that excited about trying this game out for the first time. But then… it happened… I got as far as checking the map and the game crashed. No big deal, these things can happen, but oh no it happened 8 times at that one point and when I finally managed to get the truck moving it crashed another 6 times. So how did I manage to play enough to review this game? Sheer absolute defiance in the face of failure. Let’s talk about what I managed to play a little and then on to the usual categories. OK so when the game finally worked it was what I can only call shovelware. The town and the cars look awful and there is a lack of control for your truck that is only made more obvious by the fact there is a flip your truck button to turn around. It seemed to me that most of the effort was put into the artwork for the food and even that was off putting. As the game stands at the moment it will need a lot of work done in order to make it just awful instead of the unplayable mess it is just now. I even looked at the official Twitter/X page of the game and I see that a lot of the complaints are the same. I also noticed that the game has apparently been broken since it came out on PC and the port has done nothing to fix the issues.

I would be happy to revisit this game in the future if the developers fix what is wrong with the game but in all honesty, right now I am just going to uninstall it and move on with my life.

Things I liked!

Uninstalling it | The pure satisfaction of freeing up space to play and review games that work was palpable. I honestly gave a little chuckle to myself as the numbers on my space left went up. It’s been rare that a game has invoked that response in me.

Things I disliked!

The game is broken | I mean I could go on a lengthy rant about everything wrong with the game but I will basically summarise it here. It crashes constantly, The UI is awful, the sensitivity of the controls is not optimised for Xbox, I felt motion sick whenever I was able to move, The voice acting was….OK I suppose. The time management was awful. Did I mention the motion sickness? I walked up a set of stairs in the main garage and actually had to stop and shut my eyes till the nausea went away. There is so much wrong with this game when you do manage to get playing that I am actually shocked it was approved for release. This is not like PC where they can blame your system set up, this is for a console and should be optimized in a way that makes the game playable.

Conclusion

10/100 ⭐| Until this game gets a huge overhaul I would avoid it like the plague.
