Eyes on the Week (25th-29th May)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Although completed on the 24th May, I have to give an honourable mention to Resident Evil 6. It is now 100%, and although the multiplayer was miserable, the overall main game was far better than I had believed it would be. Next, I need to either play the older ones or return to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

Now, onto this week. I finished the main story of Coffee Talk Tokyo, which was a relaxing experience that had some truly memorable characters and conversations. I’m starting my review next week as the heat has been dreadful, so make sure to keep an eye out for that.

The game which has consumed, and I say that positively, 90% of my time this week is Diablo IV. I have played through the Lord of Hatred campaign now, earned some miscellaneous achievements, and had an exceptional time doing so, if not a little repetitive. I’m saving the majority of my thoughts and feelings for the upcoming review, but I will admit it’s been a while since a game has had me in tears. I think I’ve accomplished all I wanted now and have instead thought about returning to Diablo III next week.

Most interesting news of this week: Fable has unfortunately been delayed until February 2027.

Looking forward to playing: Diablo III, Overwatch, and possibly Labyrinthine?

The kids are away on a week-long school trip, so the misses and I followed suit. We spent the week in Leiden, the Netherlands, to enjoy the weather, the cosy canals, and the lovely city.

I didn’t game much in the past week, other than playtesting Belgian puzzle game Swan Song on PC and starting the first few hours in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Xbox Series X. The latter of which I’ll tell you more about in a review soon.

On my holiday, I brought the Nintendo Switch 2 along, and I’ve been playing Yoshi and the Mysterious Book on it. Visually, it’s been a treat, but gameplay-wise, I’ve discovered some frustrations as well. I’ll also have a review for this soon, when I’ve beaten it.

Most interesting news of this week: Mina the hollower has been released as the highest scoring game of the year.

Looking forward to playing: Voidling Bound.

This week, I got to play some more Resident Evil Requiem, and it has been frightening. I already saved more than 50 times, and I believe I’m about halfway through it.

I’ve also played some more Vampire Crawlers and Marvel Rivals with friends. I’ve tried out Black Jacket, which is a blackjack-inspired roguelike that is pretty interesting and fun to play.

I started Luna Abyss, and it has been quite interesting, but very linear and not that challenging, since you have auto-aim when holding LT. I’m not quite sure I’ll finish it, but it definitely seems like a well-made game.

I’ve been playing a game for my next review, and it has been quite a good and fun game to play. Keep an eye out for my review when it comes out.

Most interesting news of this week: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 has been revealed.

Looking forward to playing: More of my review game, Resident Evil Requiem, and possibly some Vampire Crawlers and/or Black Jacket.

There has been a heatwave here, and it’s been too hot in my room to play my Xbox. However, I have been able to play a little late at night when it cools down. I started playing Luna Abyss, a first-person bullet hell shooter with a dark, surreal atmosphere. The world is filled with massive ruined structures and strange glowing machinery, and the story constantly feels mysterious and unsettling. While it’s fairly linear, I’ve really been enjoying it. As you progress, you unlock upgrades like a double jump, boost, and grapple hook, which makes movement feel faster and more satisfying. There are also hidden collectables and puzzles that make exploring each area feel rewarding.

I’ve played a little more Forza Horizon 6; I’m still mainly exploring and searching for mascots and bonus boards. As I’ve mentioned with previous Forza Horizon games, they look stunning, and the sixth entry is no exception. I’m really looking forward to playing more and diving into the racing events.

On the Switch 2, I’ve been playing Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which is absolutely fantastic and packed with classic Nintendo charm. The Switch 2 has been especially great for portable gaming during the current heatwave, and it’s been getting plenty of use this week.

Also on the Switch 2, I completed Sayonara Wild Hearts, which recently received a Switch 2 update. Running at 120 FPS in handheld mode, it’s incredibly smooth, with a striking art style and great music. It can be intense at high speeds as you dodge obstacles and collect orbs and hearts to boost your score, with plenty of replayability as I try to improve each level and explore the unlocked soundtrack mode, which seamlessly mixes the levels together.

Finally, I’ve been playing Pokémon Pokopia each day. It’s very addictive, and I like that I can play at my own pace. It’s fun building habitats and trying to attract new Pokémon using the abilities I’ve learned. It’s been a nice change of pace alongside the other games I’ve been playing.

Most interesting news of this week: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been officially revealed and will ditch last-generation consoles to focus on current-gen systems. It will feature a campaign, multiplayer, and the return of the DMZ extraction mode.

Looking forward to playing: 007 First Light, Forza Horizon 6 and Pokémon Pokopia.
