Eyes on the Week (29th May-2nd June)

Time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Only two games played this week as I’m still not quite feeling back to my usual self. I continued my playthrough of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered in order to get my last gold monthly medal for TrueAchievements in May. Genuinely forgot how much I enjoyed the campaign and the firearms used. I loved replaying those stealthy snow missions again. I do intend on finishing my first playthrough at some point so I can move on to the veteran difficulty and intel collectibles.

The other game I started was Planet of Lana which can be found on Xbox Games Pass for those who are interested; Robby’s review can be found [HERE]. It’s a phenomenal title and looks beyond beautiful. I’m really looking forward to completing the story to see where it’ll lead Lana and Mui.

Most exciting news of this week: The release of Diablo IV and AWAY: The Survival Series are the highlights of my week. Also, after reading Homestead Arcana had an unobtainable achievement removed and its gamerscore reallocated, I’m hopeful more games will receive this treatment, making us able to complete many games again which previously would have been impossible. Certainly another step in the right direction.

Looking forward to playing: Diablo IV, obviously. Plus Saga of Sins, TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 3, and Planet of Lana.

I received a review code for Road 96: Mile 0, but because it’s a prequel for which I’ve heard it’s best to play Road 96 first, that’s what I did. and I loved it. it’s a narrative adventure with branching choices and a really good political story. Mile 0 takes those elements and adds some rhythm gameplay to the mix, which even had a song by The Offspring!

I also started playing Forza Horizon 5 again, as my “I have 5-10 minutes available” title and it looks amazing on the big screen. It’s the perfect title to help me review the BenQ X3000i projector (which will come when I’ve had enough time with it)

Most exciting news of this week: The Quest 3 was just announced (at $500) and I’m tempted to pick it up, at the very least for a hardware review!

Looking forward to playing: Street Fighter 6! Just received the code and will start playing tonight!

Aaron

This week is half term so the kids are not in school. Since my days are pretty much filled with parent/child activities for the week it has been hard to find time to play some games.

I have however managed to get a few hours of Minecraft in since the kids love building stuff in there. What did I build you ask? I recreated the Spencer mansion in its entirety from Resident Evil 1. I guess the inner gamer was longing for something other than block-building. Regardless, I had a lot of fun diving back into this with the kids and we all ended up taking a tour of the mansion when it was done.

Other than that I managed to play some Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon BreakPoint which I hadn’t touched yet. So far it’s a pretty cool open-world shooter set within the Tom Clancy universe with loads of side missions, stealth and vehicles. It reminds me a lot of The Division. It probably won’t be anything I spend too much time with though.

Most exciting news of this week: Capcom released a survey on what Resident Evil game players want to be remade next. I’m happy to see that Code Veronica was actually top of the list on the poll. Whilst it is no concrete evidence, they do have a somewhat better track record these days with listening to fans since the RE2 remake was announced.

Looking forward to playing: Amnesia The Bunker.

Colombo

This week I got my sinusitis bothering me, but I’m feeling a bit better mentally, mostly because I don’t have much time to think 😅 I finally finished playing Unheard Voices of Crime Edition and my review will soon be up. I also played a little bit more of LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga. I’m really liking it and I think the change to the usual LEGO formula is a welcome one.

Most exciting news of this week: I’d say Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart being announced for PC was the most relevant gaming-related news we got.

Looking forward to playing: More LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga and maybe continuing Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch Remastered.

The weeks do fly by as of late, that’s for sure. And despite seven days passing my progress on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is still only marginal when it comes to main story content, but the side adventures, sidequests and exploration of the depths have proceeded apace. I do have my confrontation with the big bad lined up, so there is that which I’m stalling. By the Goddess what an amazing game this is. But I have slowed down in playing it all the time.

Leaving me with enough time to do some more Phasmophobia, a wild game of Deep Rock Galactic and even starting on Shadows of Doubt. That last one is a procedurally generated detective game. I’ve only gotten a bit over an hour in, so still wrangling with it, but it’s been fun so far.

Honkai Star Rail has also filled in the quiet moments when out and about. I’m currently building up a supply of tickets to pull for Silverwolf, the next limited-time banner character. On the story front, the Express set off from Jarilo VI and charted a course to the Xianzhou Luofu. And wouldn’t you know it, trouble already reared her pretty head.

My birthday was also on Monday, and it came with some games, namely: RavenswatchDeath’s Door and Lust from Beyond. That last one is seemingly more Lovecraftian mystery than adult adventures, but I’ll know it when I play it.

Most exciting news of this week: You’ve got Diablo VI that launched, as well as seeing Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart on the Steam storefront.

Looking forward to playing: The next Honkai Star Rail update is due in a couple of days, and I’m here for it!

Stu

This week has been a shortish gaming week as I am coming off an illness but I played my upcoming review game, completed some races on Grid Legends and I started a Steam game called Fear and Hunger which is without a doubt the most stress-inducing, infuriating game I have ever played but it’s such an addictive game.

Most exciting news of this week: Not much gaming news that has caught my eye, just waiting for the coming gaming release avalanche this summer.

Looking forward to playing: Final Fantasy 16 without a doubt.

Missi

I have been playing Everdream Valley this past week. Such an enjoyable farming game made by an indie developer.

If have also been playing Halls of Torment, a new bullet heaven game, which is a lot of fun. My first experience wasn’t that good with crashes happening, but it seems they found the problem and it is now a lot more enjoyable and just as addictive as other bullet heavens games.

Most exciting news of this week: I agree with Colombo, that Ratchet & Clank will come to Steam. I really wish that PlayStation would also put the Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter Trilogies on Steam. I know they are already a bit older, but I would just love to play them again but this time on Steam. (And can we also talk about making an Ape Escape Trilogy? Please??)

Looking forward to playing: I’m not sure yet, Real life getting a bit crazy, but hopefully I will have a lot of time to play games.
