Eyes on the Week (25th-29th August)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Another week passes by, with September just around the corner and the beginning of the Autumn months quickly approaching. I have continued with all the games I mentioned last week, so here’s a little update.

Discounty still firmly has my attention. I believe I’m on the final chapter of the game now, and there is still plenty left for me to accomplish. I’m helping the Blomkestians with their issues and troubles while still expanding my shop and working my shifts. It’s been nice to split up the gameplay with different journal tasks, and I look forward to completing the game this week. You’ll have my review next week, so be sure not to miss it!

I have also reached the final chapter of Life is Strange: Double Exposure. Now, although the game has grown on me during the last three chapters, it still doesn’t compare to all the others in the series, in my opinion. I will aim to finish the final chapter next week and then clean up the remaining achievements. I have seen that this requires another full playthrough, which I’m really not looking forward to.

Overwatch 2 has been both enjoyable and frustrating, which was to be expected. I was really looking forward to the Illari skin, which was released into the shop on Tuesday, but I’ve changed my mind since, as I don’t think it’s worth the price point of around £25, and it is the only pool skin that doesn’t come with an emote. I’ll save my money for either Ana or another skin in the future.

One night, I was in the mood for a horror game and decided to start Infliction. Although I have previously watched Lewis play this, I couldn’t remember the game, but I did remember it having decent scares. I want to say I got through around 75% of the game before deciding to come off, but I will continue the story at a later date. Possibly during Halloween?

Most interesting news of this week: Gears of War: Reloaded and Helldivers II are now available to play on both Xbox and PlayStation. I’m indifferent about the games being on both platforms, but I’m sure it’s a positive step forward for gaming.

Looking forward to playing: More Discounty, Overwatch 2, and Life is Strange: Double Exposure.

I’ve started playing a few games this week. On Xbox, I started Hell Is Us, and we’ll have a review for it soon on LifeisXbox. I’ve also recorded some gameplay to go alongside it.

I also started playing Coffee Talk again, a game I once started on PC, liked quite a bit, but somehow never finished. Playing it at night and with achievements as an extra incentive will make sure I get through it this time. Also, the latest game, Coffee Talk Tokyo, has a demo on Xbox and will soon have a full release.

On Nintendo Switch 2, I’m playing Kirby and the Forgotten Land, as it just received a major update with both extra content as well as improved performance. It was one of my favourite titles on the Switch, and I’m so happy with the excuse to dive in again

Most interesting news of this week: Gears of War: Reloaded is available now, on PlayStation 5. We live in a weird era, but I like having games on more platforms.

Looking forward to playing: The full version of Cronos: The New Dawn. The demo made me hungry for more punishment.

Hello! This week, I’ve managed to clear a couple of games on my backlog & also start a few new ones.

First up, Mafia: The Old Country. A delightful change of pace from the previous entries, in which we have a very linear story that follows a new member of the Tulisi family. The story is well written, and the action when it happens is great. The combat reminds me a lot of Gears of War, especially its cover system.

Speaking of Gears of War, I also picked up the physical copy on PS5 along with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. I haven’t gotten that far yet. I only just managed to take off the shrink wrap, but I should have a better idea for you all next week.

Finally, I decided to play a little more of Hell Is Us, which I have written a review for. The review goes live September 1st, so make sure to check back when it goes up on the LifeisXbox website.

Most interesting news of this week: Lost Soul Aside is finally out! A single indie dev who went from experimenting with Unreal Engine to having a full physical release with help from Sony. It looks fantastic!

Looking forward to playing: Gears of War: Reloaded & Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

This week, I finally finished playing OFF for my next review, [HERE] it is. I’m happy I got to play it, as it is quite a unique experience.

I finally finished playing Baldur’s Gate 3, and it was a great game!

I also played a little bit of Neon Abyss for Xbox Game Pass quest reasons, and it’s still quite a fun game to play.

Most interesting news of this week: The release of Gears of War: Reloaded on PS5, which is still baffling to me 😅

Looking forward to playing: Hellclock for my upcoming review and others.

I’ve been playing more Killing Floor 3 lately, and I switched things up by going Medic Specialist on Hell on Earth difficulty. Wow… it’s tough. The last two waves are absolutely brutal. But when everyone on the team picks a different specialist, it really makes a difference. I actually managed to beat two maps on the hardest difficulty so far, which felt amazing. You can check out my review [HERE]

I also jumped back into Mario Kart World. Honestly, it just never gets old. Having Mario and all these classic Nintendo characters back in my life is pure fun.

And then there’s Mario Odyssey, which has been way more challenging than I expected, but in a good way. I just wrapped up the Sand Kingdom and landed in the Wooded Kingdom, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Most interesting news of this week: Skate makes its long-awaited return this year, kicking off in Early Access on September 16th across multiple platforms. This fresh take on the series embraces a free-to-play model with regular seasonal content drops, letting you dive in early and experience Skate as it grows and evolves, well ahead of its full release still to come.

Looking forward to playing: Drag x Drive, Mario Odyssey and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds open network test.

I started replaying the Dark Pictures Anthology in preparation for the new chapter, which should hopefully be out in October. If you haven’t played them, I heartily recommend them to any horror fans.

I also finally started playing True Fear: Forsaken Souls 3, a point-and-click series I have been following for a few years now. I am so out of practice when it comes to some of the trickier puzzles, but perseverance and a cup of coffee helped tremendously.

Oh, and I cannot leave this paragraph without saying that I played a couple of great Indie Horror games this week, including Timore 6: The Cadaver and also a fun wee nightmare fest called It’s Outside by our very own Aaron Wise. It was a lot of fun, and I can’t wait for more.

Most interesting news of this week: Killmonday Games is celebrating its 10th anniversary with some fun and games on their site and a brand new game to be announced, which will feature both Fran Bow and Little Misfortune together in the same game at last.

Looking forward to playing: Tenebris Somnia, Hellraiser: Revival, Silent Hill F, and so many more games.
