Eyes on the Week (20th-24th April)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

This week, I’ve spent the majority of my time playing Overwatch. The games have been very hit or miss, with Damage and Tanks not quite pulling their weight, while Lewis and I pour our hearts and souls into supporting our team. I even spent more time playing Tank (got two achievments for them too), but then we had a support who didn’t pull their weight either. It seemed like we were damned no matter what we did. I treated myself to the LE SSERAFIM Illari bundle (Of course, it’s for Illari) and Kiriko’s Hashimoto skin, as I think it’s one of her best skins, and I’ve played her a little more since she’s been buffed.

Lewis and I also started Resident Evil 6, a game I’ve been dreading but intrigued to play, as my first experience of the game on PlayStation 3 was short and unpleasant. We’ve just managed to finish Leon’s campaign, and to be honest, it’s not great but also not as bad as I remember. Maybe I just needed to give it more time, but time will tell, especially with the other campaigns still to play through.

Most interesting news of this week: The price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has been reduced, with Call of Duty being removed from Day One releases. There is also speculation of there being a customisable plan, where you can choose your add-ons, which reflects in the final price. I’m all for this as I couldn’t care less about Fortnite and Call of Duty.

Looking forward to playing: More Overwatch and Resident Evil 6. I also want to restart my save data on either Age of Mythology: Retold or Grimoire Groves.

Went to the library and little known fact, but you can rent games there. We took home a Bratz game for the daughter (she hated it) and Mario Party Jamboree. We’ve been playing a round almost every evening with the four of us, and it’s been a lot of fun. Really nice way to close off the day.

Me? I’m still playing Screamer, Dead As Disco and The Spell Brigade in rotation.

I also tried Pokémon Champions, but it’s not for me. Too focused on the battles, no real levelling, and it looks like someone’s first go at 3D modelling. (Hilariously, my own first 3D models in Blender were all Pokémon)

Most interesting news of this week: The price of Xbox Game Pass dropped, but it won’t include new Call of Duty games at launch anymore. I think it’s a good change. They’re free to drop another $2 and axe Fortnite if it were up to me…

Looking forward to playing: Invincible VS and Replaced.

After breaking 3 ribs on Sunday last week, all I’ve done is play games. So, as you might expect, I’ve been attached to my controller playing through some review games, and also working my way through my backlog. Here’s what I’ve been up to:

Yakuza Kiwami 3: Dark Ties – Since I’ve played through Yakuza 3 many times, I decided to start with Dark Ties, and it’s been a great way to showcase the new engine upgrades, including being able to fight inside & transition to outdoors when you throw them through a window 😆 Despite a slight graphical upgrade, the story is good, with it focusing on a new protagonist who buys his way into the Yakuza underworld.

Pragmata – An absolutely fantastic game from start to finish, and a new IP from Capcom. A brave move from the publisher, given how their bread & butter is mainly on remakes and established franchises. If you want to read about what I thought, you can check it out [HERE]

The Shore: Enhanced Edition – Launching on PS5 on April 30th, The Shore is a story-driven tale based on the eldritch horror god Cthulhu, where we play as Andrew on a remote island, who is looking for his missing daughter. Great graphics, but you’ll have to wait for the review to go live to read my final thoughts.

Spell Brigade – Some friends and I have been playing Spell Brigade excessively! It’s a great little survival-like game with wizards that shoot magic at hordes of enemies while you avoid everything in your path. The team have added cross-play between consoles and PC now, as well as moving towards their 1.0 release, which lands on April 28th. Once again, a full review will be available when it is released. However, if you are like me and can’t wait to play, the PC version is available now on Steam.

Replaced – Thanks to James for providing this to me while I’m recovering. Replaced is an awesome 2.5D side-scrolling action game that is inspired by Arkham Blackgate. It’s gorgeous, and plays really well. Both James and I have been unable to decide due to conflicting interviews on how the game achieves its look. I believe that it’s using 3D models with pixel artwork & textures, and James is more inclined to believe it’s a 2D pixel handcrafted game. Weirdly enough, we both found interviews with the studio that contradict themselves, but even so, it’s a great game, and I can’t wait to continue playing.

Lords of the Fallen – Another friend of mine has been begging me to play Lords of the Fallen for some time now, and since it was just added to PlayStation+ and I have nothing better to do than vegetate, I figured now was the perfect time. It’s a great souls-like game with an extremely unique gameplay mechanic called “The Umbral”, which shows another world overlayed on top of the game world by using your lantern. You can traverse secret areas, see different enemies, and even remove blockages with it. It’s a really great concept.

Most interesting news of this week: Xbox Game Pass is affordable again, with Ultimate being as cheap as £10.99 here in the UK.

Looking forward to playing: More Replaced & Lords of the Fallen.

This week I’ve been focusing on Mouse P.I. for Hire, as it is the game I’m focusing on playing since I’m reviewing it ASAP, and it’s been quite a good time so far. I do not think it has “too much cheese” in it 😂

I’ve also tried a bit of Vampire Crawlers thanks to Xbox Game Pass, and it has been very good as well, lots of combos, unlocks, and plenty of fun to be had with it.

I finally finished playing Remnant II‘s DLCs with my friend, and we liked them, but we agreed that they reused way too much content from the original game in them. We also just started playing Minecraft Dungeons DLCs as well.

I tried a few VR games on my Meta Quest 3S, like Thief Simulator VR, which I wasn’t a big fan of, The Light Brigade, and Into the Radius, and these two were pretty good from the little I played of them.

Marvel Rivals was back in my rotation again, as the new PvE mode has just arrived, so I wanted to give it a go with my friends. It is pretty fun, but as you choose harder difficulties, it gets longer and ridiculously difficult. Anything beyond hard seems absurd, forcing you to use revive tokens way too many times; they want you to spend money with this 😅

Most interesting news of this week: The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate price drop and new marketing campaign, seemingly starting with a new logo and the phrase “We Are Xbox”.

Looking forward to playing: More Mouse: P.I. for Hire, Marvel Rivals, Minecraft Dungeons, VR games, and whatever I can fit into my schedule.

This week I’ve been playing ChainStaff, a fast-paced side-scrolling action platformer set on an Earth overrun by alien “Star Spores” that mutate wildlife into dangerous creatures. You play as someone fused with a parasitic alien, using the ChainStaff, a versatile weapon that functions as a spear, grappling hook and shield, to fight through levels. The challenge steadily increases the further I get in, with some genuinely taxing moments, and I’ve been surprised by how outrageously funny some of the moments are. Using the ChainStaff as a spear is especially satisfying, and each level is packed with secrets that make replaying it worthwhile.

I also completed Captain Puff McFly. Despite its short length and a few difficulty spikes, I had a blast playing it and am looking forward to the next game in the series, where I hope they expand and go even bigger.

Also been on Mario Kart World on Switch 2 a bit more, Knockout Tour online is still my favourite mode. I’ve also jumped into a few Apex Legends matches with a friend who’s just started playing again.

Most interesting news of this week: Ubisoft has officially unveiled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a full-scale remake of its fan-favourite pirate adventure. Rebuilt with modern graphics, upgraded gameplay, and new story content, the 2013 classic is set to return on July 9, 2026, as a flagship release, signalling a major push to revive the franchise’s momentum.

Looking forward to playing: Pragmata and Invincible VS.
