Eyes on the Week (18th-22nd May)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

This week has been a continuation of the previous weeks, returning to previously beaten games and beginning a new game. Overwatch, although it has continued to be in rotation, was torture for the first few days this week. Not only did Lewis and I have to play Classic Overwatch and Mystery Heroes in arcade mode for the weekly challenges, but we had to play every role, and it was miserable to say the least. Once those traumatic games were out of the way, we returned to 6V6, where I’ve been playing Domina as the newest hero to my Tank rotation.

I also reinstalled Diablo IV, as I now have access to both the Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred DLCs. I will share my thoughts on the Lord of Hatred once I’ve played through the campaign, but as I’m yet to start the Vessel of Hatred, that comes first; you may have to bear with me while I traverse all the content I need to catch up on. I’ll be playing on my Sorceerer, as I’ve managed to sort out my skill tree for her, and she currently has the best gear of all my characters.

Now I’m back home, Lewis and I have continued playing Resident Evil 6. We’re still grinding the multiplayer achievements, but we only have two remaining, so I’m hopeful it will be complete by next week’s post.

As for brand new games, I’ve started my playthrough of Coffee Talk Tokyo, which I will be reviewing once I’ve finished the game. I’ve played through the first three days and must say I have already started to bond with the customers in my coffee shop, while enjoying fulfilling their drink orders. I can’t wait to play more over the weekend.

Most interesting news of this week: Destiny developers Bungie are releasing their final live service update for Destiny 2. While the game will still be playable, as is the first, it’s the end of an era for all Destiny enjoyers.

Looking forward to playing: A continuation of this week’s games.

I’ve started playing LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight with my son Lio. The LEGO games are perfect for co-op play with young kids, as you can pretty much play them as an experienced player and let them mess around, with only some moments requiring actual cooperation. To give an example: It Takes Two would be impossible to play with my kids, as it requires both players to have near-perfect hand-eye coordination. You can watch us play together HERE.

I’ve also started playing Coffee Talk Tokyo, which is the perfect game to end a day with. Forget about your worries and have the relaxing lo-fi vibes calm you down. bliss!

And on my Steam Deck, I’m still playing a few rounds of Dead As Disco every day, and I think I’ll continue to do so for quite some time.

Most interesting news of this week: Forza Horizon 6 has already sold 6M copies, I heard.

Looking forward to playing: Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. I’ll bring it with me on my holidays next week!

I’ll be honest, I’ve been in a tough spot the last few weeks with my cracked ribs still giving me a hard time. But while I’ve been trying to manage that, I have been playing a few games from my backlog.

First up, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Set in London in 1900, this was one of the few Assassin’s Creed games I passed on after the abysmal launch of Unity put me off them for a while. I’m glad to say that after the recent bout of 60fps updates, Syndicate was a joy to play. I had no idea what I was missing out on. I enjoyed it so much, in fact, that I decided to get the platinum trophy :trophy:

While I was playing through Syndicate, I also played through Necrophosis for an upcoming review, and although short, all I can say for now is that it’s a stunning-looking game with some fantastic lighting, and incredible set pieces. Look out for that coming next week!

Finally, I got back into VR, and although movement was hard with the bad ribs, I managed to finish Resident Evil 4 Remake in VR, and also start Metro VR, both incredibly good-looking titles and fun as hell.

Most interesting news of this week: Game pass is free with Discord Nitro?!?!

Looking forward to playing: Assassin’s Creed Unity.

I’ve been exploring Gotham in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight after completing it on the weekend for my review, which you can read [HERE]. It has been very good, and some puzzles and trials are difficult to solve or get the best score.

I’ve continued to play Vampire Crawlers for my daily Xbox Game Pass quests, and it’s been a challenging and fun experience.

I’ve also finished playing Duck Side of the Moon, which was a fun, relaxing, and wholesome game. You can read my review of it [HERE].

I’ve continued my journey through Resident Evil Requiem, and it has been fun, scary and has the perfect balance between action and horror.

Marvel Rivals was back in my rotation, as I wanted to try playing the new season with friends. It turns out that Devil Dinosaur is a pretty fun character to play as, and I’m still enjoying playing it with friends.

Most interesting news of this week: There’s a new partnership between Xbox Game Pass and Discord Nitro, giving Discord Nitro users access to the base tier.

Looking forward to playing: More Marvel Rivals, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and Resident Evil Requiem.

This week I’ve been playing R-Type Dimensions III. It’s the kind of game that feels great to pick up and play, but after a while, the relentless challenge can start to wear a little thin. Switching to Infinite mode makes the experience far more approachable, letting you work through all six levels with much less frustration. Still, I can’t help wishing there was a middle ground between the default difficulty and Infinite mode. You can read my full review [HERE]

I’ve continued playing Forza Horizon 6, which has been absolutely amazing so far. The map is enormous and easily the biggest in any Forza Horizon game, and even after a week of playing, I still haven’t uncovered every region. Most of my time has been spent exploring, hunting down bonus boards and tracking down the new mascots, which resemble giant toys and have unique designs depending on the region. Along the way, I’ve also taken part in a few online events, as well as some of the single-player races I’ve stumbled across while exploring the world.

On Switch 2, I’ve started playing Pokémon Pokopia, and after just a few hours, I can already understand its appeal and why so many of my friends have enjoyed it so much. Despite Pokémon being such a huge series, this is actually the first Pokémon game I’ve properly played, so everything still feels fresh and new to me. I’m looking forward to spending more time with it over the coming weeks.

Most interesting news of this week: Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 will no longer receive future expansions, with all major content updates cancelled, though the game will remain online. The announcement follows a six-month content gap that had already left players concerned, marking a major turning point for the long-running live-service title.

Looking forward to playing: Forza Horizon 6, Pokémon Pokopia and 007 First Light.
