Eyes on the Week (11th-15th May)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

As I’ve been with Lewis this week, I’ve had access to additional games, so I decided to return to something I completed on Xbox 360, but had yet to complete on Xbox One. L.A. Noire is a brilliant detective game and mostly holds up even now. I’ve completed all the Homicide cases with five stars, and I’m on the Vice desk now. I returned to free roam to complete any missed street crimes once I had completed the desk. It’s something I’ll chip away at over time, as it can get a little repetitive for my liking.

The 10th Anniversary is currently ongoing in Overwatch, and it’s been a little underwhelming. I’ve played Classic Overwatch and regular 6V6, but the games have felt sweatier than usual, which is never a nice feeling. As for competitive, I’m still Diamond 1, and I’m still adamant I will get to Masters before the current season ends.

I finally returned to Hidden Cats in Tokyo and finished off the remaining two levels and all the achievements. Curse those hidden toys… These games are incredibly relaxing and easy to jump into at a moment’s notice. I believe there are others I’m yet to play, but I will get around to them at some point.

Finally, I returned to Colorful Colore, Ballotron Oceans, and Animal Lover to complete their title updates. I also played two title update levels of Escape Sequence, but following the inputs started to give me a headache. It really does feel like a modern-day torture device.

Most interesting news of this week: The new Xbox update now allows you to hide any games on your profile, regardless of completion percentage or achievements. I’m also looking forward to seeing the new start-up screen and achievement tier badges.

Looking forward to playing: I would like to try out the Alan Wake event in Phasmophobia, play more Overwatch, and perhaps go back to something in my backlog.

I’ve gotten player lvl 25 in Invincible VS, gotten all the arcade endings and about 600 of the 1000G. That’s as far as I’ll take it, but I’ve had my fun with the fighting game, more than I expected to. Just wish the single-player story were longer than an hour.

I’ve started playing Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks, which is coming to consoles soon. Was kinda surprised it doesn’t have a single-player mode, other than setting up your own matches versus bots. Something about that plan of attack always makes it harder for me to motivate myself to play more. I’ll have a video and a short review up soon.

I’ve also beaten Screamer, and the final race of the game was FANTASTIC with an amazing soundtrack to go alongside it. You can find my recording here, but be aware of a story spoiler following right after the race!

Lastly, I’ve started playing Coffee Talk Tokyo, which is releasing soon. It’s the perfect game to end the day with. A super laid-back and relaxing title to calm the nerves right before bed.

Most interesting news of this week: We’ve sold over 200K copies of Dead As Disco in less than a week. It’s been such a wild ride and such a success story; we’re all very excited. Also, I heard Xbox just introduced achievement-related badges, and I’m getting close to the 500K one myself.

Looking forward to playing: I’m going to reactivate my Xbox Games Pass Ultimate for Mixtape and Forza Horizon 6.

I’ve been playing [REDACTED] a lot this weekend, so I’ll get my review up as soon as possible, and I’m loving it! You’ll see more about it in the review itself 🙂

I started playing Resident Evil Requiem, and it has quite a good start with the suspense and horror on Grace’s side, and the action on Leon’s, but I haven’t gone far in it yet.

I’ve played some more Minecraft Dungeons DLCs with my friend, and the length of a mission surprised us, as it took us about an hour to finish it, but it has been interesting and fun to play nonetheless.

I’ve also played some more Vampire Crawlers, and it remains an addictive, satisfying and fun game to play.

Most interesting news of this week: GTA VI has apparently been reassured to release in November by Take-Two’s CEO.

Looking forward to playing: More Resident Evil Requiem, Marvel Rivals, Vampire Crawlers and Minecraft Dungeons.

I finished playing Strange Antiquities, which I really enjoyed. It was very addictive trying to solve the customers’ queries and identify the correct occult artefacts, with some being easier than others, and I found myself thinking about it even when I wasn’t playing. I managed to unlock two of the nine endings, and I’m very close to unlocking a third. You can check out my review [HERE]

I also played Mixtape, this coming-of-age experience centred around a group of friends on their last day together. You play through a series of memories, with each one featuring its own music track. The characters really grew on me, and I enjoyed my time with the game, especially the different gameplay mechanics, art style, and soundtrack. After finishing Mixtape, I’ve been replaying chapters to mop up some achievements, with only two left to unlock. You can check out my review [HERE]

Another game I’ve been playing is Sayonara Wild Hearts, whose new Switch 2 edition was recently released. It feels like stepping into a fast-moving pop music dream with neon visuals, rhythmic gameplay, and an incredible soundtrack that really sticks with you. It is really cool to play when I have a few minutes to spare, and I keep trying to beat my previous high scores.

Finally, I played the opening of Forza Horizon 6, which is set in Japan. I love the early stages of a new Horizon game, with so much exploring and so many things to discover, from finding hidden billboards to trying to drive down every road. Just talking about it makes me want to play more.

Most interesting news of this week: Subnautica 2 sold over 1 million copies within its first hour of early access, according to its developer, Unknown Worlds Entertainment, continuing to climb through day one and marking a standout debut for the Subnautica franchise, underscoring strong demand for its underwater survival experience.

Looking forward to playing: Forza Horizon 6 and R-Type Dimensions III.

Halios

I’ve got a mountain of fun coming my way this month.

Endix is next weekend, and I’m looking forward to checking out the virtual convention for the first time as a creator. Really wanna see if this could be something that is for the future, and I would love to get a VR set if they do it in VR for this reason alone. Imagine that!?

Been playing a ton of Turnbound and Oaken Tower, two outstanding auto battlers that really show the diversity of the genre. I am honestly HOOKED on Oaken right now and tend to play a few rounds daily.

A shocking title landed on my desk called Whirlight: No Time To Trip. A really cool point and click that reminded me a ton of the old Lucas Arts ones. The puzzles, humour, and GORGEOUS art carry this title to at least suggest people give it a try.

Far Far West is highly addictive. If you haven’t tried it, please do. I played solo and found a ton of fun with people joining my game and having a good time adventuring in the world.

Lastly, thanks to Robby, I got into The Spell Brigade and found out why everyone loved that game. It is really a ton of fun, and the spell combos are ridiculous.

Most interesting news of this week: Hell Let Loose, an indie war game that is SO underrated, is getting a Vietnam expansion this week!!!

Looking forward to playing: Getting into Dead As Disco (thanks Robbie!) and jamming!
