REVIEW | Rolling Adventure

LifeisXbox’s Rolling Adventure review | Rolling Adventure is a 2D Platformer that’s developed and published by Jumit. Rolling Adventure feels like an arcade game most of the time due to it being very difficult at times. As you jump and boost with your vehicle trying to avoid falling off the platform you’re driving on, you will come across all kinds of mechanics that try to destroy your car. Can you make it to the end of the track in one piece?

Drive too slow or too fast, you’ll end up unsurpassed. Drive at a pace, this ain’t a race.

What we liked!

  • A 2D platformer with a twist | Rolling Adventure feels a little like the mobile game Hill Climb Racing, but at the same time it’s a completely different game. Instead of driving as fast as possible to collect fuel, you find yourself on a spinning conveyor. If you’re standing still, drive too slow, or even too fast, you’ll find yourself replaying the level over and over again until you can get to the end of the conveyor without falling off. Not only that, but there are obstacles like chainsaws and spikes that try to destroy your vehicle. If you fall you instantly die, but hitting one of the obstacles costs you 1 life out of the mere 3 that you have. Besides obstacles that actually try to break your vehicle, there are also things like walls or elevators that try to slow you down, or ramps that force you to speed up, making it possible for you to fly right off your conveyor.

Somewhere between

  • Nice, but inconsistent graphics | The graphics look very nice, but at times the art-style did feel inconsistent. On the world map, you’re driving in a low poly-like environment, but in the levels themselves you don’t really notice any low poly stuff. The colors of the game were more consistent, however there’s a lot of green throughout the game. There’s also a lack of graphical settings, forcing you to play Rolling Adventure at the performance your PC can or can’t handle. Adding these settings would allow people on lower-end devices to play this properly without any frame-rate issues.
  • Small soundtrack | Some of the tracks in this game were well composed but did feel a little repetitive after a while. Every one of the islands seen on the map have their own song, only when playing the levels though. Since there aren’t a lot of islands, that does make the list a lot smaller than I would like it to be. The soundtrack gave me Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom and farming vibes, which does fit the theme of the game surprisingly well.

What we disliked

  • Progresses like a mobile game | If you have ever played a mobile game you’ll most likely know the concept of collecting stars. Sure, it’s very difficult to collect the stars in this game which does add for some extra challenge, but they are so difficult to the point where it’s near impossible to collect them all. You are even forced to collect a lot of those stars to progress through the last level of the game. Besides the stars there were also screws, a collectible. The game claims that these can be used for upgrades, but I didn’t come across any “upgrade points” throughout my playthrough.
  • Too difficult | It may be just me, but I did find Rolling Adventure to be too difficult to my likings. It’s already very early on that the game becomes very difficult, especially when you start to get the collectibles which, as I mentioned before, are necessary for unlocking the last level of Rolling Adventure. It may look like an easy game but looks are definitely deceiving here.

VERDICT
60 out of 100%

A decent vehicle 2D platformer with a unique concept of adding
a conveyor instead of a road. You will find yourself trying to not drive faster or slower than necessary while trying to collect stars and screws. If you’re someone who likes a challenge and is into mobile-like-collectibles, then this is surely something for you!
