Preview | Live the Life

LifeisXbox’s Live the Life preview | Live the Life is a life simulator developed and published by One Man Behind. In Live the Life you, obviously, live a life – you’ll start off creating your own character that should represent you. Since this is a life simulator, you’ll have to take on a job so you can earn money to buy stuff and to keep yourself healthy. Your money will have to be spent on food, but the main thing you’ll be spending your money on is furniture. With this furniture, you’ll be able to customize your own apartment.

What can you do in Live the Life?

Upon launching the game you’ll be greeted by two options; Creative Mode and Life Mode. If you’re someone who likes to design, the Creative Mode will be something of interest to you. There are a lot of different furniture options that you’ll be able to use to design your rooms in any way you like! You’ll have beds, tables, closets, and more… to choose from. I wasn’t even able to check all of it out – there is so much furniture to choose from! I really think that this is where the game shines!

This wouldn’t be a life simulator if it wasn’t for the main mode, Life Mode. Life Mode is where you really start to Live the Life. You’ll have the ability to walk around a world that’s filled with stores, restaurants, traffic, and people. To earn money you’ll have to take on a job as a janitor. As the janitor, you’ll be working in a restaurant where you’ll be mostly cleaning, obviously. So far, this was the only job I could find in the game unless I overlooked some things. Now this money will have to be put to good use. As I mentioned, the world of Live the Life (also known as Port-Anthony) is filled to the brim with stores, and I mean it! Around every corner there is a store to enter, one will be selling beds, the other will be selling wallpapers,… there are way too many to name! At this point the game becomes a little similar to the Creative Mode; you’ll be able to customize your apartment. However, you’ll also have to keep working to earn money and, most importantly, take care of your health – you’ll have to make sure you sleep, eat, shower,… the usual stuff.

Live the Life has pretty decent graphics, but the interior of some buildings do, at times, look a little empty. The entrance of the apartment complex is an example. The NPCs themselves are a little mixed; some look good, some a little rough.

What improvements can be made?

First, I want to get this out of the way; despite my system being well above the recommended system requirements, the game crashed a lot, and there were some performance issues during my playthrough. I know this is still an early release, but I do really hope this issue gets resolved when the game fully releases.

Something that just kept happening to me was that items like knives, brooms, or even boxes just froze in my hands – I just couldn’t put them down anymore. This forced me to launch the game over again.

I also found the time in the game to go by way too fast. I just began working as a janitor, and before I knew it, the day was over, despite not having done much.

One issue that I had with the apartment customization was the fact that I could very easily clip through walls; just place something like a seat or a toilet facing the wall, sit on it, stand up, and boom… in the other room (no pun intended).

Conclusion

This looks like a very fun game, but there is still a lot of work to be done. The game already has a very, very large library of furniture, which is great! For now, maybe the focus should be put more towards less repetitive jobs and stabilization of the game, to prevent these crashes and other issues from happening.
