Preview | Bashtronaut

LifeisXbox’s Bashtronauts preview | I got to kick off the gauntlet of games I’ll be covering from Gamescom with Bashtronauts from OrionGames, a Hack & Slash game in a fresh coat of Gameboy-inspired graphics.

You’re a new hire at “Invader-Be-Gone, Inc.” as a Junior Eradicator with the lofty yet seemingly impossible goal of getting a promotion, something that hasn’t happened at the corp in the last couple of years. And so you’re sent from contract to contract to beat a series of progressively harder-to-beat rooms full of invaders. The combat in Bashtronauts consists solely of blunt force trauma. This trauma will be administered directly, after a dodge or even as a parry. Timings on all vary, and while fair don’t leave much room to breathe after factoring in that these all eat away at your rather limited stamina bar. So as you successfully make your way through the levels, you’ll be awarded bonuses by the magnanimous management that will allow you to permanently increase your health and stamina. I also picked up a weapon or two, but they only seemed to last for as long as I didn’t die. I found a rubber chicken and was later assured there were a couple of other funny things to whack my KPI into shape with.

When I asked what kind of length we could expect Bashtronauts to be I was told it’ll be around 4 hours for a single run from start to finish, choosing to respect the player’s time instead of needlessly padding. You can however get some good replay value out of mastering the combat system and going for ever higher scores. Have I piqued your interest? Why not give it a wishlist on Steam?
