Xbox Review | The Cabin Factory (Tidbit-style)

We love all sorts of games. Sometimes it is hard to cover a game in our traditional review style that’s why we have tidbit-style reviews. These shorter reviews cover games that deserve attention too, but simply don’t fit our good, mixed, and bad template.

The Cabin Factory is a short horror game that is based on anomaly detection in a creepy, limited-sized cabin setting, allowing for a tense and psychological horror experience that will have you questioning whether your final decision about whether the cabin appears haunted is right or wrong.

And that is about all there is to the game. Check each cabin for anomalies, be aware of all your surroundings, survive the fatal cases, and get through your work day by getting eight correct in a row to complete the game. There are miscellaneous achievements that I went back to complete after finishing the main game, but The Cabin Factory is not a difficult or lengthy game by any means; it’s great if you have limited time to play.

The audio does the job, with chilling winds sweeping through each cabin, and some anomalies having unique sound queues that will instantly have you retreating to safety. The visuals are hit or miss, with some textures failing to render in, but others being perfectly fine. Minimal but acceptable. There is limited replayability with reward, as there are only so many specific anomalies to spot, and once you know what to look for, everything becomes easy and second nature when playing. I will admit, in the beginning, it did creep me out, and I booked it straight for the front door whenever I noticed even the slightest movement, but this was short-lived and became more humorous than anything.

Conclusion

Score: 60/100

For the pricetag of £2.49, The Cabin Factory does its job and provides an hour or two of enjoyable playtime. It’s a short but sweet experience for those who enjoy both horror and ‘spot the difference’ types of games. However, it could have included improved scares and more anomalies to make the overall objective that much harder to complete.
