Review | Gaps by POWGI

LifeisXbox’s Gaps by POWGI review | Hello again and welcome to another POWGI game! After covering Word Sudoku, Ladders, and Mixups, I am here to introduce you to another title in the series: Gaps by POWGI. As always, this is a puzzle game by Lightwood Games where a list of words each has one letter missing. You have to fill in the gaps and with these new letters, you’ll form a new word.

This is a short review, our usual the good, mixed and the bad was difficult because of the nature of this game. We played Gaps by POWGI for 2 hours on ‘platform’. This game is also available on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

The gameplay in itself is pretty simple: finish the words and get a new word with the letters you filled in. Or at least, it sounds easy enough, doesn’t it? I was surprised how difficult this game could be, honestly. I am not a native English speaker, but I feel confident enough to say that my knowledge of the English language is pretty decent. Still, I had to call in some help from the internet sometimes because I simply didn’t know all the words in this game. So fair warning about that to my fellow Dutch, French, German, and whatever speakers!

As usual, the POWGI games include some cheesy jokes that I personally never really cared for. If you’re into some lame humor (which I usually am), you might get a laugh or two out of them, but they will never be the main focus of this game. The puzzles themselves are fun, and the accompanying music is okay and upbeat. I just didn’t feel very excited about the music and turned on my own music instead. This is in no way a dealbreaker though, because these games used to come to us in little magazines or puzzle books that you could buy, and they didn’t include music back then either. There are no breathtaking visuals either, but again, I never expected there to be any. The focus is whether or not the puzzles are enjoyable and challenging, so that’s what really counts, in my opinion. With 150 puzzles and a lot more gaps to fill in, you’ll be busy for a few hours, and by this, the game does exactly what it sets out to do.

Gaps by POWGI is a fun addition to the POWGI puzzle series. Without flashy visuals or music, the game does what it’s supposed to do and offers a few hours of puzzling fun.
