REVIEW | Stunt Paradise

Having played the zombie-themed games (Zombie Derby) from Brinemedia and liking pretty much all of them, I was interested to discover how they would handle this more stunt & spectacle-oriented release. Stunt Paradise is a game with a simple concept: reach the finish through increasingly wild constructions and set-ups on your path and score some coins or collect stars along the way.

It’s really easy to play with only 3 inputs needed (Forward, Backward and mid-air orientation) and even my kids were able to get the controls figured out in a couple of minutes.

Shining a light on some easy achievements!

Things I liked!

  • Really easy to master | With simple controls and some very forgiving levels at the start, it’s an easy game to recommend even to younger audiences. My 5- and 8-year-old were able to complete levels within minutes. The first few levels hardly require you to do more than just drive forward. You can see how much fun my son was having in the video below:
  • Easy achievements | Let’s get the biggest talking point out of the way quickly: Brinemedia is known for making games with easy achievements that do not require you to beat the entire game for 1000G. They even added free updates to their titles so you could be getting 3000 or 4000G on them and that doubles down because there is both an Xbox and a Windows 11 version. Personally, I don’t mind this at all and I even welcome the easy dopamine rush from seeing the numbers go up.
  • Nice set-pieces | There are some cool moments like jumping over helicopters, almost getting eaten by a shark or dodging projectile rocks from an exploding volcano. It looks spectacular in motion, and especially younger audiences will eat this up! I also like how some clever loops change while you are driving on them or while you’re in midair, there are a few ideas here that I really enjoyed.

A short game to sink your teeth into!

Neither good nor bad

  • Visually simplistic | The game uses a low-poly style with few to no textures. This makes loading happen smoothly on all platforms but also means this isn’t the best-looking game. It does put in some effort to dress up the backgrounds with nice clouds, or set-piece action moments. But you can tell from the screenshots this was made with low-end devices in mind.
  • Content | There are 50 levels to play through, even though you’ll get all achievements from beating the first 10, and they are all very much worth playing through. There were some more frustrating sections in the half-way point though, so prepare to experience some trial & error there. 50 sounds like a lot, but if you’re paying attention you should be able to complete the entire game in under 2 hours. If you’re interested you can also go for the hidden star in each level or collect money to buy new cars, but there isn’t a lot of incentive to do so.

Can’t keep me contained!

Things I disliked!

  • Not a lot of replayability | If you’ve beaten all 50 levels and obtained all stars, there isn’t that much more to keep you occupied. With about 3 hours of playtime, you’ll have probably seen everything the game has to offer. To make up for this, the game is priced pretty low.
  • Car variety | I would have loved to see some more outlandish car designs to unlock, making it worth my time to replay levels and earn more coins. The Zombie Derby games had some pretty cool vehicles, so it’s a shame they didn’t make it in as a nice wink to the other games from the dev.
  • Music & Sound effects | The audio design is pretty bare-bones with the same loop repeating on each level. It doesn’t really get bothersome though

Conclusion

72/100 ⭐ Stunt Paradise is a great little indie game that will provide a few hours worth of fun while you discover its setpiece stunts. I’ve played it together with my two kids and that only added to the enjoyment as seeing them cheer with glee after beating a level is pure bliss.
