Review | LoveChoice

LifeisXbox’s LoveChoice review | I’m not an avid visual novel gamer, yet here I am bringing you guys a review of LoveChoice! Truth be told, this cute little game made me want to make an exception because of the adorable vibes it was giving off. So, here I am telling you about my short experience with Akaba Studio’s LoveChoice, which was released on consoles about a month ago. Published by Ratalaika Games, this interactive visual novel game has been available on PC for about three years now, and the response was quite positive there, so let’s see about the experience on the Xbox Series X, shall we?

This is a short review, our usual the good, mixed and the bad was difficult because of the nature of this game. Maui played LoveChoice for 1,5 hours on Xbox Series X. This game is also available on PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.

LoveChoice is an interactive visual novel in which you get to experience three different stories. Each of these stories tries to be meaningful and reasonable, and more importantly, has multiple endings. Getting to these endings is basically a process that requires a lot of trial and error, and it took me a fair bit to figure out how to get different endings. You see, instead of picking from dialogue options, you sometimes have to do something completely different, like dragging a person somewhere or clicking a certain item on the screen. I didn’t understand this at first, but maybe that’s simply because I’m usually not an interactive visual novel player.

Every story revolves around love and the ups and downs that come with relationships. It was quite beautiful to read everything, enjoy the beautiful art style, and on top of that, the whole game was accompanied by a wonderful and adorable soundtrack. I did really like that all stories were, in a way, completely different. They do even manage to tap into your emotions.

Throughout the stories, you’ll solve some puzzles and even get to play a few minigames. Everything is super easy to figure out, so the focus definitely remains on the story. My personal favorite story was definitely the last one called ‘Love – Detective’ because this included the most and best puzzle elements. The minigames themselves were rather boring as they included clicking musical notes and a little game similar to the popular cup game where you follow the cup that has something hidden under it.

In all honesty, LoveChoice is an okay game, but it’s really short. You’re lucky if you get two hours out of it, and my favorite story was over the quickest, unfortunately.

LoveChoice looks and sounds beautiful, and it has some enjoyable stories and puzzles in it. However, it’s quite a short game and things didn’t always make sense.
