REVIEW | Figment 2: Creed Valley

LifeIsXbox’s Figment 2: Creed Valley review | I’ve been super excited for this one to release. The first Figment blew me away with its musical boss fights and witty writing, and I couldn’t wait to see how the team had evolved and applied their improved skills on the sequel.

Figment and its sequel both take place in the human mind, we play as Dusty who embodies the mind’s courage and faces nightmares while his feathered friend Piper keeps him motivated. Now, since the game is FULL of puns and rhymes:

I promise you this and I hope it will amaze
for the rest of this review, I’ll rhyme in each phrase!

What we Liked!

  • The writing is clever and often witty,
the graphics are clean and downright pretty.
There’s a mix of dimensions that matches just fine,
this style gives the backgrounds their time to shine.

  • The dialogues are fun, and the voice-acting to the point,
so even a cheesy pun, will not disappoint.
The societal commentary is especially strong,
and it’s all the more impressive when it’s brought to us in song.

  • Find enough collectables and memories will unlock,
about a father staying too late at work, and running the clock.
It’s a warning, to keep an eye on what matters most:
pay attention to your wife and kid, or your relationship is toast.

  • Variety is important, now ain’t that the truth?
After all that fighting, you can even play the sleuth.
Figment 2 isn’t afraid to think outside the box,
in fact, it’s in these special moments that it truly rocks.
  • The levels are chaptered, so if there’s something you’ve missed,
you can hop back into it, and finish your checklist.
The first one was more open, and it was possible to get lost,
So this change is a smart choice, if the devs don’t want to exhaust.
  • The puzzles aren’t challenging, no they won’t be too hard,
and the combat’s fine too, if you don’t drop your guard.
Keep swinging and rolling, just don’t lose your head,
take comfort in knowing that a checkpoint is close, if you do end up dead.

Mixed Feelings

  • Figment 2 likes to burst out into song,
But its running time won’t stretch for too long.
That being said, its brevity respects your time,
and what it lacks in longevity, it makes up in rhyme.

What we Disliked

  • The first game’s big foes were its bright, shining spotlights,
but in Figment 2, there are hardly any bossfights.
    I didn’t need many, no I don’t require a bunch
but what’s a party, if no one brings the punch?

It takes place in the far corners of the mind, and managed to surprise with the genres it combined. It’s fun but brief, yet well worth your time, or otherwise do you think I would have bothered with this rhyme?
