Review | Bouncy Bullets 2

LifeisXbox’s Bouncy Bullets 2 Review |  I have never played the first Bouncy Bullets. In fact, this is the first game published by Ratalaika Games I have ever played but I do know that most of them are short/simple games, this one is no different. In Bouncy Bullets 2 you play as an unknown character (it’s an FPS and there aren’t any mirrors or water surfaces you can see yourself through) through 45 colorful levels which are divided into 3 worlds: easy world, medium world, and the hard world. Your objective is pretty simple: get to the blue portal within 100 seconds. Bouncy Bullets 2 is developed by Petite Games and published by Ratalaika Games S.L.

ℹ️ | Colombo played Bouncy Bullets 2 for about 50 minutes on Xbox One. This game is also available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch.

What we liked!

  • Colorful world | Even though I’m not the hugest fan of extremely colorful things because they can be aggressive to the eyes if not applied correctly, I feel like there are plenty of instances where multiple colors can fit quite well, and in Bouncy Bullets 2, this was one of those instances where I didn’t feel overwhelmed by the array of colors. The developers managed to make a simple yet nice looking game.
  • Simple gameplay | This game is incredibly simple to pick up, you will get used to the controls very easily because here’s what you can do: walk, move your camera, jump, and shoot. There are only two things about this game that are out of the ordinary: you have different kinds of bullets, one can be shot with RT, the other one that can be shot with LT is used to defeat the yellow enemies. I will say that I managed to complete the game without shooting with LT at all which probably made the game harder than it was supposed to be. The other different thing is that you can make your bullets bounce on walls, ground, and ceiling (hence the name of the game). Even though you can do all this I feel like this game can be completed without even shooting a bullet if you’re careful enough (haven’t tried this myself, so not 100% sure on that).
  • Good variety | The enemies come in four colors: purple, which can be defeated by shooting with RT; yellow, which can be defeated by shooting with LT; grey, which will make you fail the level if shot at (just run past them) and black, which can be defeated by bounced bullets (most of the time it’s easier to just shoot at the ground right next to them). They do have size variations and can even have two shields circling them at times. There are also collectibles in the form of golden nuts and a few deadly obstacles like saws and spikes (which are pretty easy to go through), big bullets that reminded me of Bullet Bill from Super Mario games because they are shot from devices that look a lot like the ones that shoot Bullet Bills, flamethrowers and lasers both of which can come in static or moving variations. There’s also a speedrun mode where you play the same levels from classic mode but without the 100 seconds time limit, instead adding a speedrun timer in its place.
  • Easy 1000G | While I’m not the kind of guy who gets all achievements in most games, when I do like a game a lot, I try to do quite a few secondary objectives/quests in it which almost never seems to get me to 1000G on a game. However, in Bouncy Bullets 2 I barely had to get out of my way to get all achievements that achievement hunters will be happy to know. All I had to do to get 1000G was get one golden nut, defeat one enemy of each type, beat 10 easy and medium levels, beat 3 hard levels and beat a single level on speedrun mode.

Somewhere between

  • Short length | As I did mention before, I played this game for about 50 minutes and believe it or not, that was enough for me to not only complete all the 45 classic mode levels but also get 1000G which will make achievement hunters happy (because I’m sure they can finish it even quicker than I did) but if you’re looking for a game to invest more than a maximum of 2 hours (considering you beat the speedrun mode as well), Bouncy Bullets 2 probably isn’t for you.
  • Simple Soundtrack | The overall soundtrack/sounds of the game weren’t bad, they were okay. I do like electronic music and this is the focus here, although it does kind of fit the game it doesn’t feel unique enough. The sound effects are also alright, nothing very satisfying or amazing here, they aren’t bad, they just lack a little bit more “flavor” to them.

What we disliked

  • No sensitivity options | I thought it was worth mentioning this here, because at first I felt the need to change the right analog sensitivity, but I did get used to the default one while playing. Nonetheless, it is certainly something that should be avaliable to adapt in a first person shooter.
  • Unrewarding scoring/collectibles | There is a scoring system that gives you points based on foes killed and timing but it doesn’t feel rewarding to get a high score on a level. This is beacuse there’s no difference in getting a low or a high score, that’s also the case with collectibles.

How long to beat the story | From 30 minutes to 1 hour
How long to achieve 1000G | From 30 minutes to 1 hour

Bouncy Bullets 2 is a colorful, simple, and easy game that feels like a pleasant breeze to go through but since it’s so short and it doesn’t have a rewarding scoring system I felt like I couldn’t rate it higher than I did. If you’re an achievement hunter you should definitely play this and if you’re not, you may still like what you play but keep in mind that this is a short and pretty simple game.
