Well, this is awkward. Looking ahead at the upcoming games of September, and we’re already halfway through the month… We intend to have this repeating article every first of the month, with the entire LifeIsXbox crew giving their own top 5 and seeing where our combined interests are. But for this first trial month, we’re a bit late. Still, September 2025 is going down in history as one of the biggest months ever in gaming (cough-cough, Silksong), so we felt it would be silly to skip it.
So, without further ado, here are the Most Anticipated Games of September 2025…
5. Hollow Knight: Silksong – 4 September
This may come as a shock, but only one team member listed Hollow Knight: Silksong in their top 5 (and luckily in first place). Seems like none of our team members is a glutton for punishment, or most of us are just busy with other games. But as the most anticipated game… ever? It would have been a sin to not even have it in our Top 5, right?
The most wishlisted game ever on Steam, out now on all platforms and scoring 10/10 reviews everywhere. This is one for the record books.
4. Borderlands 4 – 12 September
The new Borderlands 4 game lands on the spot fitting its numerical release. Three of our crew ranked it pretty high in their list, and Vicci even gave it her top pick. It’ll be hard pulling her away from this one when she sinks her teeth into this fun grindfest full of loot drops and silly humour.
3. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles – 30 September
It’s the age of remakes and remasters, and we’re here for it. I’m personally a huge Final Fantasy fan, and I’ve played the Tactics games on Nintendo’s handhelds, but never this original one from the PlayStation days. Finally, we’ll get to experience what everyone’s been raving about all those years. And maybe they even made some tweaks, making it more accessible, as I’ve heard horror stories of people saving themselves into a corner and not being able to beat a particular boss.
2. Silent Hill f – 25 September
After the success of Silent Hill 2’s remake, we get a new original entry in the series, and it’s set in a Japanese town with us playing as a schoolgirl trapped in a misty horror setting. The trailers promise a bigger focus on combat and more outdoor locations. It looks like it oozes with atmosphere and will likely be a blast to play for those who can stomach the horror. It earned a number 2 spot in our list!
1. Cronos: The New Dawn – 5 September
Well, this is awkward. Our number one most anticipated game is already out. But the LifeIsXbox crew ranked this bad boy pretty high on their list, and despite the difficulty of the game being very punishing, we’re all over the polished post-apocalyptic atmosphere as we plunk our heavy boots down across biomass-filled corridors, trying to save what’s left of humanity. Oh, and we’ll make sure to pet some cats along the way.
You can look forward to a detailed review soon, or check out the first hour of gameplay here.
