A new month, a new tidal wave of amazing games washing over us and leaving our backlog in ruins. I feel like, with the September and October releases alone, we could easily fill an entire gaming year and not need a single other game to come out.
That being said, we asked the LifeIsXbox crew about their Top 5 Most Anticipated Games of October, and this is the final result after all of us cast our votes….
5. The Outer Worlds 2 – 29 October
A lot of us at LifeIsXbox loved the original The Outer Worlds, it offered a more digestible Western first-person RPG approach compared to Bethesda’s titles. Shorter, more to the point and you could easily see most of the game and feel satisfied. Add in a dose of humour, colourful locations, and it was an adventure to remember. If The Outer Worlds 2 brings more of the same, you can sign us up for a front-row seat!
4. Keeper – 17 October
Double Fine can do no wrong here. We’re huge fans of the studio and their original games, especially Psychonauts! In Keeper you play as a walking lighthouse, shining light on dark growths to brighten the road ahead. It seems like it’ll be a rather short adventure, and that’s a very welcome palate cleanser here in between bigger releases.
3. Battlefield 6 – 10 October
Battlefield requires no introduction. The series is famous for its widescale battles, including vehicles and destructive environments. This is the game you love to play with your online friends after completing the epic single-player campaign. Will Battlefield 6 stand tall among the best the series has to offer? We’ll find out soon enough!
2. Digimon Story Time Stranger – 3 October
Digimon. Digital Monsters. Digimon are the Champions! Two decades later, and I can still recall the opening lyrics of the TV show. Personally, I’ve not played many Digimon titles, but all my friends and fellow writers who kept up with the releases always spoke highly of the newer games. Digimon Story Time Stranger offers a full-fledged RPG promising hours of fun evolving your digital monsters and building a more powerful party. Let’s just hope it doesn’t involve scooping up too much pink poo.
1. Little Nightmares 3 – 10 October
While the third game in the series is no longer in the hands of the original developers (they went on to make their own game in a similar setting with REANIMAL, which just got postponed into 2026), the new team seems more than capable of delivering a tiny scare for the third time. I played an amazing co-op demo myself at Gamescom 2024, and Little Nightmares III promises to be just as scary and punishing as the classics before it. Who are you forcing to be your co-op buddy, so you don’t have to face the nightmares alone?
