After a few months of nonstop waves of releases, the summer is ironically cooling down and giving us some time to breathe. That doesn’t mean that July has nothing to look forward to, however! Here are the top titles the LifeIsXbox crew is looking forward to, in chronological order!
Rhythm Heaven Groove (Nintendo Switch 2) – July 2
Rhythm games are on a generational roll this year! We’ve just had Dead As Disco knocking it out of the park, Mr Records announced during Summer Game Fest and now Rhythm Heaven Groove is here to show you who’s the king of music-matched minigames. You can count on a LifeIsXbox review for this one very soon!
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced (Xbox, PS5, PC) – July 9
Arguably one of the best Assassin’s Creed to ever grace our screens is setting sail again with a shiny new coat of paint. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a remaster of the seafaring, chanty-singing masterpiece with adventures across the Caribbean. It drops the “IV” from the title and also any references to the Animus or current-day shenanigans, in favour of focusing on the pirate life immersion. We’re hoisting our sails, that’s for sure! Denshattack! (Xbox, PS5, PC, Switch ) – July 15
Denshattack! delayed its release from June to July to spend a little more time in the cooker (and likely for marketing reasons to dodge some other big hitters and the June overload of events). We’re excited to grind our traincars through ridiculous levels regardless, and can’t wait to discover what other surprises this will have in store for us. It’s going to be crazy and we’re here for it!
Tears of Metal (PC Early Access) – July 22
Tears of Metal, a medieval hack-and-slash action roguelike developed by Paper Cult. Players will advance to the front lines to aid the Scottish battalion and reclaim the island. Both playable solo, as well as up to 4 player co-op!
Helix: Descent N Ascent (PC, Switch) – July 23
Helix: Descent N Ascent is a Belgian indie game with a tale not told with words, but through stunning black-and-white artwork, living 2D scenery, evocative paintings, and powerful atmospheric music. Discover new powers as you progress through your adventure. Each one allows you to meaningfully interact with your surroundings and solve the many puzzles awaiting you
Splatoon Raiders (Switch) – July 23
After crash landing on the mysterious Spirhalite Islands, the Mechanic (that’s you!) must collab with a trio of swashbuckling musicians by the name of Deep Cut to get back home, solve the mystery of the islands and, most importantly, recover as much loot as possible! Splatoon Raiders is a single-player-focused Splatoon game, unlike its multiplayer-first predecessors.
Halo: Campaign Evolved (Xbox, PS5, PC ) – July 28
After crash landing on a mysterious ringworld known as Halo, the Master Chief is tasked with defending humanity against an overwhelming alien force: the Covenant. With the help of his AI companion Cortana, the Chief must uncover Halo’s dark secrets and fight to avert the annihilation of all life in the galaxy. Halo: Campaign Evolved is a single-player remaster of the original Xbox release.
Mistfall Hunter (Xbox, PS5, PC ) – July 29
Mistfall Hunter is a dark fantasy extraction ARPG. Combine skills, talents, and gear for each class in thrilling combat! Whether you team up or go solo, one thing remains certain: only by fighting your way through can you return with a full haul.
With the LifeIsXbox team having such a wide mix of tastes, trimming the list down was anything but straightforward. Plenty of other games were brought up along the way, each with strong backing from someone on the team. These are a few titles that narrowly missed a spot in our top items:
