Eyes on the Week June (15th-19th June)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? And what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions! We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

I’ve continued to play Overwatch this week, especially with Illari’s new Mythic Skin! I’m over the moon about it and bought everything; it was the reason I was saving up my Mythic Prisms after all. I’ve played a mixture of quickplay and competitive 6V6, with the competitive being abysmal. I’ve been playing every role – Tank tends to be Domina and Orisa, DPS is Sierra or Mei, and Support has been Illari, Juno, Zenyatta, and Moira. Now, I know it’s quickplay, but can we stop running 4 DPS heroes? Please and thank you.

To relax, Lewis and I returned to PowerWash Simulator to tackle the Shrek DLC. It took us a few days, as we played it before and in between the World Cup matches, but we managed to get everything sparkling and all the achievements along the way. Extremely relaxing and easy to sink time into. I even listened to a playlist of all the Shrek movies while playing, which was a great time. Next will perhaps be the Wallace and Gromit DLC.

Finally, I played 5 Demos from the Steam Next Fest collection: Nothing to Declare, Mini Murder Mysteries, Milki Delivery, ReStory: Chill Electronics Repair, and Moss: The Forgotten Relic. To see more of my thoughts on the first three games mentioned and other games played by the team, check out our Steam Next Fest 2026 Article [HERE]

Most interesting news of the week: GTA VI preorders will be available next week. I’m interested in seeing what price point we’ll be looking at for all editions.

Looking forward to playing: Overwatch and RV There Yet?

I spent a lot more time watching game-related shows than I did actually playing, in the past week. I binged S3 & S4 of The Witcher (and don’t mind Liam Hemsworth much as the new lead, but to be fair, he didn’t get a ton of screentime.) And then I moved on to S2 of Devil May Cry, and the first episode dropped Getting Away With Murder as the first song. Euhm, I’m sold!!?

What little game time I did have was spent getting closer to 100% in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. You can read my review [HERE]. I continued playing Donkey Kong Bananza right after, which I had stopped around 80% in (guess). Wonder if people would still like a review for it this long after release 🤔

Most interesting news of the week: Obvious one, but Xbox potentially selling Double Fine, Compulsion Games and Ninja Theory. It’s grim days for an Xbox fan.

Looking forward to playing: Steam Next Fest demos. I’m gonna play a whole bunch of them tomorrow.

This week, I got to play through RE:CALL, which I bought quite a while ago. It’s a pretty interesting story-focused game with a few puzzles along the way. Even though I was somewhat disappointed with its ending, I still liked it quite a bit.

I also played through LEGO Builder’s Journey, which I also bought quite a while ago. This was a short, simple, but still intriguing puzzle game to play. I did play a little bit more of Marvel Rivals with friends again, not as much as I was doing lately, as my work shift changed, and I’m getting home pretty late.

My Xbox Game Pass games, which I played again for my daily quests this week were Brotato and Escape Simulator. The latter seems interesting enough, but I don’t know if I’ll have much patience for playing through every available puzzle by myself.

Most interesting news of the week: The apparent grim news on Xbox about studio closures. I do hope this means the studios that stay will make great games, but it’s sad to see others go.

Looking forward to playing: I want to start playing more of my bought games from my backlog, more Game Pass games, and Marvel Rivals with friends.

This week, I’ve been diving back into Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, which has just arrived on the Switch 2. Rise remains one of my favourite games from the Xbox One era, and with it being a few years since my last playthrough, I jumped at the opportunity to review this new version. I’ve been playing it throughout the week, and it’s reminded me just how well the game holds up. The action, exploration, and storytelling are every bit as engaging as I remember. I’m now nearing the end of Lara’s adventure and have been putting the Switch 2 port through its paces. So far, it’s been a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and my full review can be read [HERE]

I’ve also been playing Beatdown City Survivors, which was recently added to Game Pass Ultimate, and it’s become a fun game to jump into while completing my daily reward quests. You choose from a wide range of characters before heading into the city to battle hordes of monsters in this survival-style roguelite. Defeating enemies earns coins that can be spent on upgrades during a run, while permanent upgrades can be unlocked back at base. The difficulty ramps up quickly, and environmental hazards such as fire, toxic waste and liquid nitrogen can be just as dangerous as the monsters themselves. It’s easy to pick up for a quick session, but there’s enough progression to keep you coming back.

Most interesting news of the week: After a few positive months for Xbox, the company now faces controversy following reports that three studios, Ninja Theory, Double Fine and Compulsion Games, could be closed during a major restructuring. The studios are reportedly exploring independence, while Microsoft has not commented.

Looking forward to playing: Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales.

I feel like this week is honestly so hard to do anything besides Steam Next Fest. It is like a celebration of indies and demos and love. Soooooooo my week has been Steam Next Fest. I’ve been trying to level in NBA The Run as well. The game is good, but it has a lot of bugs that need to be cleaned up to make it a competitor in the sports genre. Look for my article later for it! 😉

Most interesting news of the week: Xbox deal. That’s a killer.

Looking forward to playing: Diving deep into some Next Fest titles and finding the GEM of the fest.
