Eyes on the Week (7th-11th July)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

The heat is back with a vengeance here in the UK, which has made gaming less appealing than usual.

That being said, I finally managed to complete the base game of Lies of P on Wednesday. All I had left was to collect/play all records and to reach the final ending, which required a New Game + playthrough. I also had forgotten to level a normal weapon to its maximum level, which took no time at all, as I had plenty of upgrade materials. If you’re interested in seeing how I got on, you can find my entire playthrough HERE

Although the Overture DLC is calling to me, I’m going to take a small break and play something a little less stressful before I tackle it.

As for that next less stressful game, I have my next game in mind, but I haven’t played it quite yet due to the heat getting to me. I can’t wait for summer to be over and for the autumn/winter months.

Most interesting news of this week: We’ve had an update from Lunar Software explaining that Routine, a horror title last heard about at Summer Games Fest 2022, is ‘still very much in active development’.

Looking forward to playing: My next cosy game and either SCHiM or Age of Mythology: Retold. I know I keep mentioning the latter two, but I will get round to at least one of them next week!

I finally found some time to get some more playtime in.

On PlayStation 5, I beat Spider-Man (yes, the PS4 version, I’m going through some backlog of must-play titles). I liked the webswinging through the city a lot, but by the end it felt more like an open-world checklist game (which I enjoy!)

I bought and completed Heretic’s Fork in a single sitting. It’s a roguelike tower defence game I’ve enjoyed on PC first, and when I saw a discount, I couldn’t resist. Despite the game having a ton of content that will keep you busy for 100+ hours if you want to, I did get all 1000G in around 2h30m of playtime. I got lucky with my 3rd build and felt like I could go infinite quite easily. HERE is my old Steam version video, if you want to see it in action.

Speaking of console ports, Peglin just made its way onto Xbox, and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. A roguelike Peggle game that gets crazy very fast, but it’s hard to have full control over your actions. Will probably have a review for this up on LifeisXbox soon!

On the Nintendo Switch 2, I’m mostly playing Mario Kart World single player, doing all the cups and exploring the open world. So far, I have to admit that I’m more fond of Mario Kart 8’s course designs, though. Might also have a review for this soon!

And lastly, I played Wind Peaks, a game Jim reviewed a long time ago. It’s fun, it was on a major discount, and it’s an easy 1000G. However, it’s a little too frustrating for a hidden object game, because it hides items behind other objects, so it quickly turns into a “randomly click everything” experience, and that’s not very fun.

Most interesting news of this week: Peak sold 4.5 million copies. That’s super impressive for an indie game. Not my genre, but happy for the Aggro Crab & landfall Games teams!

Looking forward to playing: Donkey Kong Bananza comes out next week, and that looks like it’ll finally give the Switch 2 a must-own game that isn’t Mario Kart.

I finally finished playing Ruffy and the Riverside this week. It was a pretty joyous experience, but I had a few technical difficulties, which I’ll report in my upcoming review.

Again, Game Pass quests made me play a little bit of a few games: DredgeSlay the SpireLittle Nightmares IIMonster Train 2 and Brotato. I plan to go back to them in the future; the only one I’m unsure of coming back to is Dredge. Not because I don’t like it, but because I don’t know if I’ll have the patience for it. I also continued playing Steamworld Dig 2, which is always very entertaining

My girlfriend visited me on my day off after we went out, and we got to play some Party Animals online, a little bit of Brotato, and she also wanted to try out Elden Ring, so I finally started the game as a weird-looking Astrologer.

Most interesting news of this week: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 releasing on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Looking forward to playing: More Steamworld Dig 2, and after I’m done with it, maybe going back to Elden Ring and finally playing it.

I played the opening of Ruffy and the Riverside, and I really like what I’ve seen so far. I’ve been exploring and getting to grips with the swap mechanic controls, which work surprisingly well. I’m also really enjoying the funky music.

I’m still playing The Precinct, which is a lot of fun. Who would have thought playing as a rookie cop could be so enjoyable? I’m still working through the story, but I’ll be covering it in my next review.

I also completed a new game called Paper Bad. It’s like a 3D Paperboy on rails. It was fun while it lasted, but I managed to get 100% completion in under 45 minutes.

Most interesting news of this week: Slow week for gaming news, but Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 just released on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Looking forward to playing: The Precinct, Ruffy and the Riverside and, hopefully, plus some Final Fantasy XVI.
