Eyes on the Week (5th – 9th December)

Time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

I decided to try a couple of different games this week. I started Alice: Madness Returns, courtesy of EA Play, as I realised it would be the perfect game for one of my medals on TrueAchievements for December. Much to my surprise, I’m thoroughly enjoying what I have played so far and intend on trying to complete the game and achievements sometime in the near future. Secondly, I started out QUByte Classics – Radical Rex which is a game I will be reviewing but I can’t give much of an opinion quite yet as I haven’t played enough. Dead by Daylight brought out the Christmas update yesterday which I didn’t play last year so I’m looking forward to walking around and hiding in snowmen while admiring the festive decorations. The basement looks incredible and trying to sus if killers are in snowmen is great; some killers are clearly scrouges though!

Most exciting news of this week: The Game Awards having a tonne of interesting premiers. I’m looking forward to playing the new Hide n Seek mode in Among Us; think it’ll be a good laugh. Also, I’m intrigued for Diablo IV being released in June 2023 to see if they can keep the quality of Diablo III. Post Trauma also has caught my attention.

Looking forward to playing: Plenty of review games and Dead by Daylight are my only focus right now. If I have the time, perhaps more Scorn or Alice: Madness Returns.

Lots of internet drama about Xbox, FTC, and the Game Awards to name two. So I’m guessing I’ll be amused by some of the action on socials for the coming days. Still working on a few review games that you’ll be able to read soon!

Most exciting news of this week: The ignorance and foolish work of the FTC.

Looking forward to playing: Some more Midnight Suns.

They started renovating the attic in my house so I didn’t have a lot of time to play games. I’m currently going through The Callisto Protocol and having mixed feelings. The visuals are great and I see all the similarities with Dead Space, but it just seems to do everything less… good? More in my review soon, but I’m still torn on what my final review will look like. I also played the first hour of Marvel’s Midnight Suns and that’s the opposite reaction: I instantly knew I would like it and 1 hour in, I love it. This has the potential of ending up in my top 5 games of the year even. Yesterday, I discovered that Aaero 2 has a demo on Xbox, so you can bet I instantly downloaded it and spend the rest of the evening and this morning playing. Aaero is still one of my favourite indie games ever and I couldn’t be happier that a sequel is on the way.

Most exciting news of this week: Yeah, that Aaero 2 demo I mentioned above is really such a big deal that I drop it here again!

Looking forward to playing: I’m hoping to beat The Callisto Protocol before the weekend and also continue with Pokémon Violet.

Wasn’t really able to play much this week, will start playing my review games I received on Wednesday asap though.

Most exciting news of this week: Remnant II being announced on The Game Awards.

Looking forward to playing: GTA IV The Lost and Damned (still haven’t been able to finish it), my review games and maybe other games if I have the time for them.

This week I’ve been putting more time into Pokémon Violet, slowly working towards the post-game. My team’s permanent members are taking shape with a good mix of old & new.

As always I’m playing Final Fantasy XIV, this week starting the Omega questline, levelling my crafting and gathering jobs even more while stalling to start on the Shadowbringers expansion. (I need more classes to split exp between.)

The Game Awards also just happened at the time of writing, and I’m excited to see the world premieres and awards being handed out to gaming’s best and brightest. Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok will both be needing extra space in their trophy cabinet. Fromsoft took home 4 awards, among which the coveted “Game of the Year” award. God of War Ragnarok takes home a whopping 6 awards. The acceptance speech of Christopher Judge, the voice of Kratos, was heartfelt and inspiring 8 minutes long. That feels about as long as half his lines in Ragnarok 😉 Final Fantasy XIV also got to take home the awards for Best Ongoing and Best Community Support. I may be slightly biased, but I feel they’re well-deserved.

Most exciting news of this week: The Game Awards, hands down. And while I spoke about it above, I must mention that Fromsoft announced their upcoming Armored Core: Fires of Rubicon has me properly excited for what could come.

Looking forward to playing: I’ll be reviewing Hello Neighbour 2 for a review. I briefly played the first one, so I’m curious to see where they’ve taken the sequel.

I played quite a lot this week for how much I play normally. I started this week off with Wavetales, what an amazing game. I’m not allowed to say much but would highly recommend keeping an eye out for this one.  The next game was Cafe Owner simulator, which I enjoyed a lot but I’m a sucker for this type of “cleaning and managing things”.  It can use a lot of quality-of-life improvements and I don’t recommend it if you don’t like this type of game. Necrobouncer was next on the list, what a fun rogue-lite game, but very challenging. I haven’t been able to get past the second world, but I like that it has a few types of objectives so not every level plays the same. Played Togges next which is awesome and I keep thinking about it at least 3 times a day, so I guess that is a very good sign and I hope to finish it soon. It has a weird but great concept and I like it so much more than I would imagine. And the last thing I played this week is Undead horde 2: Necropolis which was released yesterday. I enjoyed it as much as the first part of this series.

Most exciting news of this week: I write this before the game awards, so I’m not sure if this will really be the biggest news of the week, but I’m grateful to hear Spirittea will come to gamepass.

Looking forward to playing: More Togges, as I’m far away from finishing that game and Lil Gator Game that is around the corner.
