Eyes on the Week (4th-8th August)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Overwatch 2 has played a massive part in getting me back into gaming this week. After watching the Mid-Season Championship at the Esports World Cup, I had a huge itch to play again. Admittedly, the games have been their typical mixture of good and bad, but I’ve learnt to accept that with multiplayer games these days. I’m still sticking to my usual hero selection. Still, I desperately would like to improve at playing D.Va, as Orisa is the only tank pick I feel comfortable playing at this moment in time. As for my placement matches, I placed in Gold III, as to be expected and ranked up to Gold II after one match.

SongPop Party was refreshing for a couple of days again, but I did find myself getting quite burnt out due to its repetitiveness. It’s definitely not something I can play every day for multiple hours, but the odd hour or two here and there is fine.

Finally, Me and Lewis started a new game on Friday night called Crime Boss: Rockay City, which greatly reminds me of PayDay, but feels less stressful. It’s got the same base idea: Scout, infiltrate (stealth or loud), loot what you can, and extract. Each heist we’ve done so far we’ve completed using stealth, but it’s taken us a good amount of time and tries to get it right. Needless to say, it’s pretty satisfying.

Most interesting news of this week: The Wholesome Games Celebration is currently live on Steam with plenty of smaller indie games on sale for you to check out, demos to try, and new game announcements: all through to August 14th.

Looking forward to playing: A new review game, Battlefield 6 Open Beta and Overwatch 2.

I’ve been playing OFF on Steam to test if everything is in working order. I completed the original 2008 version last year, and it was very interesting to see the new content. It definitely plays a lot better with modern UI and such. excited to see what people will think of this Belgian-made RPG cult-classic.

On Xbox, I’m still playing Peglin (it’s addictive) and on Nintendo Switch 2, I’m playing Donkey Kong Bananza, but not making a lot of progress (my wife thinks the buttons click too much and the game requires a lot of button mashing, so I can’t play it at my usual times, with her annoyed next to me…)

Most interesting news of this week: I can’t think of anything this week, but lots of Gamescom news is incoming in about 2 weeks!

Looking forward to playing: I’m getting excited about Gamescom and want to try Cronos: The New Dawn, as it looks spectacular.

I’ve started playing OFF for one of my upcoming reviews. So far, it seems like an interesting game, and you can clearly see where Undertale took inspiration from here, from the story itself to the art style.

I’m still playing Steamworld Dig 2, and I’m still enjoying it very much; it shouldn’t be too long until I finish it. Also, I finished playing My Friendly Neighborhood last Sunday, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I came back to playing Little Nightmares II because I needed an Xbox Game Pass game to play and complete my quests, and it’s been genuinely scary but pretty good. Brotato also came back into my rotation because of this.

I also played a little bit of It Takes Two with my girlfriend, and Baldur’s Gate 3 with my friends again. Both remain very fun to play.

Most interesting news of this week: Mafia: The Old Country is releasing. It doesn’t seem to be amazing, but it does seem like a good game.

Looking forward to playing: More OFF, Little Nightmares II, and Baldur’s Gate 3. Maybe some It Takes Two with my girlfriend again, Steamworld Dig 2, and Hellclock, which is another game I’ll be reviewing soon.

I mostly played Ritual of Raven. I really do enjoy this programming farming game that feels like a good entry level into the automation games. For most, I don’t feel competent enough, but this one is not too challenging and very cute with an interesting story.

Furthermore, I played through Catto’s Post Office. Which reminds me of games like A Short Hike, Little Kitty Big City, and other chill and short adventure games. It is adorable!

Most interesting news of this week: The 40th anniversary of Rare.

Looking forward to playing: Discounty, which will release later this month.

I’ve been playing a lot more Cyber Clutch: Hot Import Nights. Despite a few issues, which I’ll cover in my upcoming review next week, it’s a fun, adrenaline-fuelled arcade racer.

I’ve also continued playing Killing Floor 3 in random online squads. It’s really refreshing to see everyone working together to complete objectives and clear each level, no matter what skill level players are. I’ll be covering this in my upcoming review as well.

Lastly, I’ve been trying out some of the Battlefield 6 beta. I played a few rounds of Conquest and really enjoyed what I’ve seen so far. The destruction is very impressive; each game in the series always tries to outdo the last. I still have high hopes for a Battlefield: Bad Company 3 one day!

Most interesting news of this week: The legendary fantasy FPS classics Heretic and Hexen are back, revived, remastered, and have just been unleashed on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate!

Looking forward to playing: Cyber Clutch: Hot Import Nights, Killing Floor 3 and some more Battlefield 6 Beta.

I’ve been replaying Brutal Legend and remembering why I stopped playing in the first place. Great Soundtrack, subpar game.

Also, I got back into my board game phase by playing Pandemic – Cthulhu Edition and Splendor, which is a lot more fun than you might think.

I also got back into playing a wee bit of VR Horror with The Exorcist Legion VR on my Meta Quest 3, and let’s just say it has improved a lot from the last time. Updated graphics and sounds just make it even more terrifying.

Most interesting news of this week: In the UK, Xbox now requires you to prove your age with ID thanks to new laws. So yeah, even in my 40s, I have to prove I’m over 18.

Looking forward to playing: The new Blumhouse games that are coming out soon, and of course, the newly announced Hellraiser game.
