Eyes on the Week (31st August-4th September)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? And what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions! We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

I managed to clear up the remaining achievements for Directive 8020 this week. Still, I’ve decided to keep playing until I unlock all turning points, because I’m intrigued to experience all the different scenarios available. It may take me some time as I’m a little confused about some of the descriptions, but I’ll keep trying different paths. I really hope they make some changes to their next game in the series, as Directive 8020 was disappointing, but I haven’t got my hopes up.

Overwatch, as per usual, was in my gaming rotation again. I haven’t been playing Illari as much, though, as my teammates have been questionable, and I don’t want my win percentage dive-bombing, so I’ve been playing Moira/Zenyatta/Juno instead, with a few Lifeweaver and Wuyang games thrown in.

Lewis and I have returned to Escape Simulator this week. We’ve completed the last set of rooms and are now tasked with clearing up all the missing tokens and miscellaneous achievements. It’s been fun but frustrating at times, but definitely a game I would recommend, either solo or with friends, to get your brain working.

Most interesting news of the week: Xbox Game Pass subscriptions are now getting a monthly cap when it comes to Cloud Gaming, which I think is unnecessary. You will then have to pay for Cloud Gaming past your limit. Thankfully, it doesn’t affect me.

Looking forward to playing: Borderlands 4, Overwatch, and wrapping up Directive 8020 completely. Also, trying to continue my classic difficulty playthrough of Mafia.

I’ve been spending most of my gaming time with Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and will have a full review to share soon. It’s a beautiful game, and I’m soaking it all in, spending way more time in the game’s photo mode than I should be. The original Plague Tale games had the same effect on me and unlocked the virtual photographer inside. Audio is amazing too, and I love the puzzles so far. The comat, however, didn’t really click at first: I never seemed to get the parry timing right, even in the tutorial, and after that the game always threw many enemies at me at once, whereas the combat felt more appropriate for one-on-one fighting. I’ve since focused more on dealing AOE damage and found a few trinkets to help with the parry timing… but my go-to approach is still “which enemy can I kick to his death” with every fight sequence.

On the upstairs Xbox Series S, which I play before bed, I’m playing Ball X Pit, and I have about 7 hours in it right now, but it’s just not vibing with me the way I expected it to. The building arrangement isn’t super interesting to me; the Breakout gameplay is somehow a little boring to me; the only thing that really keeps me going is experimenting with the different fusions and seeing which crazy combinations I can pull off.

Most interesting news of the week: I heard StarCraft 3 might be happening still.

Looking forward to playing: I really hope to get a code for Control Resonant for review. It was my Gamescom 2026 Game of the Show by far.

Hello readers! This week I’ve been addicted to Escape from Tarkov with James. I can’t remember a competitive shooter that has stuck with me so much. Probably not since PUBG. Each match is harrowing, yet exciting. But the fact you have to manually manage everything, from your wounds, to your guns, the ammo types, and even your hunger makes it an experience that makes it something that demands your attention every single second.

I’ve also been playing the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection 2, which James got me for my birthday. It contains my all-time favourite Metal Gear game, MGS4, and I’m so excited to finally play it in all its glory.

Most interesting news of the week: Sony finally backed down (a little) with news that disc production will stop in January 2028, continuing but reducing production by 10%.

Looking forward to playing: Lots more Tarkov. Ungodly amounts.

This week I’ve finished playing Batman: Arkham Knight, activating the Knightfall Protocol. It was a great time going through all LEGO Batman and Batman Arkham games, but I ultimately decided to not replay the Telltale Batman games, so it’s officially the end of my Bat-marathon. If you don’t count that, I’m currently playing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. I played a bit more of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League with my friends again, and it has been interesting, as it has its fun moments and a few bugs here and there.

I’ve been enjoying Blood Dungeon as my new go-to Xbox Game Pass game; it’s chaotic and pretty difficult, but it is quite fun to play. I also tried out Monsters are Coming! and Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault, which were quite fun to play as well.

I’ve started playing Mafia: The Old Country, as it’s been sitting on my backlog for a little while, and I recently bought its newly released DLC, Man of Honor, which seemingly adds missions in the middle of the campaign. It is quite a beautiful game, very cinematic, and I really enjoy how overall realistic it feels as well as the combat.

Most interesting news of the week: Speedrunners 2 just released.

Looking forward to playing: More Mafia: The Old Country, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Blood Dungeon, possibly The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, Marvel Rivals and Fortnite, though I’m not quite sure about these yet.

I finished playing The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition. Despite a few issues I mentioned last week, mainly with checkpoints and AI-controlled characters, there were some great moments too. Some of the larger battles were a lot of fun, and defeating some of the more challenging bosses after a few attempts felt particularly rewarding. Hopefully, some of the issues will be addressed in future updates, as I think the game has plenty of potential. You can read my full review [HERE]

I also played a little more of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, which, as Robby mentioned, is absolutely beautiful. I’m really enjoying the atmosphere and the attention to detail, and I’ve found myself spending quite a bit of time in photo mode capturing some of the more memorable moments. There’s clearly plenty more to see, and I’m looking forward to continuing my adventure and seeing where the story takes me next.

I also finished my Forza Horizon 6 review, which you can read [HERE]. I know the game has been out for a few months now, but I was taking my time with it and playing through it slowly. Over the last few weeks, though, it became something of a comfort game for me, and I found myself playing it much more following the sad passing of my father. Having something familiar to escape into and enjoy helped during what has been a difficult time. Because of that, I decided to dedicate this review to my dad, which felt like the right thing to do given his love of cars and the memories I have of him going to car meets every weekend.

Most interesting news of the week: Xbox is introducing monthly limits on cloud gaming for Game Pass subscribers, ranging from 5 to 15 hours depending on the plan. Xbox says only around 4% of subscribers will be affected, but players who reach their limit can buy extra hours through the Xbox Store.

Looking forward to playing: Orbitals co-op with Aaron on the Switch 2 and more Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.

This week, I am probably going to pour a ton of time into Moonlighter 2 and see how far my shop/adventure can go! The first was amazing and, while the second has changed a ton, I actually adore it more!

Afterwards, I find myself getting the itch to play CS2 again. Maybe even League. The competitive edge is taking over, and that is getting harder by the day to resist.

Most interesting news of the week: Lots of games are releasing soon, and that is just too much news!

Looking forward to playing: Halloween and Castle Away. Two top of list games!
