Eyes on the Week (2nd-6th March)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? And what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Another week which was practically identical to last week. Overwatch games have been good overall, but I’m getting really fed up with Doomfist/Sombra players constantly ruining my support games. I understand it’s their job to dive the backline, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.

I’ve made slightly more progress in TCG Card Shop Simulator. Although I’m not really playing for achievement purposes, which may be hurting my overall playstyle in terms of profit margins, I’m enjoying my time collecting. I’m trying to collect every card without using the automatic machines that open multiple packs for you, and I’m halfway done with the original Tetramon cards. Admittedly, if I have the funds, I’ll get a few achievements and then reload my save, but that’s only been once or twice. I’ll classify the game as ‘completed’ once I have every card, not when I have every achievement.

I returned to UFOPHILIA this week, but I still struggled to make much headway with the game. I do believe I’ve improved as I understand the mechanics and equipment a little better, but I’m yet to complete a successful mission. The review will be online early next week.

Most interesting news of this week: Xbox have announced ‘Project Helix’ as their new hybrid console, which will play both Xbox and PC titles. I’m interested, but I still think you’d be better off buying a PC due to upgrade limitations with consoles.

Looking forward to playing: Overwatch, TCG Card Shop Simulator, and Order 13.

I’ve played about 22 hours worth of Collector’s Cove, and it’s very hard to put down. There just isn’t a natural stopping point to a play session, with always the next unlockable within reach. That may be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your own ability to plan for playtime in a week. Definitely look forward to a review by Benny later on for his opinions on this cosy seafaring collectathon.

I’ve also finally beaten Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and even did most of the post-content stuff for achievements. But I don’t see myself playing the RNG memory game for hours just to get rare items or to go back and try to fight all the monsters in the game. Guess I’ll never get 1000G, but much as I loved it, I don’t want to sink another 20 hours into such a grind.

Most interesting news of this week: Guess we’re looking at the next big war, and that has bummed me out more than you’d imagine. Thank god for games to escape into. On a personal note, I just signed a PR contract with the biggest games I’ve had as a client yet: Dead As Disco. Definitely check out their demo, I’ve already spent hours in it!

Looking forward to playing: Pokopia. My daughter recently discovered Animal Crossing as her favourite game and saw the ads for this on TV. She’s going to review it with me.

This week, I’ve mainly been investigating a string of mysterious deaths that have been plaguing Wrenwood. So far this week, we have had 5 bodies all exhibiting the same symptoms of bruising, with decay around the neck and hands. My boss thinks that they could be related, but I’m starting to think something else is going on here.

But before you get carried away and assume I’m talking nonsense, just know that what I say is half true. Resident Evil Requiem launched last Friday, and within 5 days sold 5 million copies. Two of those were mine, one for the Switch 2 with the 30th anniversary edition safe in hand, and one for the PlayStation 5, which gives me some headroom for performance-based testing. It’s been a very short week, but it’s where I’ve spent most of my time. Our very own Benny Hall had the pleasure of reviewing the game himself on Xbox, which can be found [HERE] and scored it an almost perfect 100. Don’t worry if you haven’t played it yet; it’s spoiler-free, so go ahead and check that out.

Also this week, I joined James, another writer of ours, in checking out & completing Scott Pilgrim EX, which can be read [HERE]. It’s got some charm to it, and a beautiful pixel art style, even if it is a bit short.

Rounding up the week, I started playing some Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered, which I aim to have up early next week since I have a fairly quiet weekend ahead of me.

Most interesting news of this week: 5 million copies in 5 days for Resident Evil Requiem?! Capcom are going to be powering these out like candy!

Looking forward to playing: More Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered.

I’ve finally finished playing Yakuza Kiwami 3; you can check my review of it [HERE]. I still have to finish playing Dark Ties before reviewing it, but it’s coming soon 🙂

I played a little bit of Marvel Rivals again with friends, and played Halls of Torment for the usual Xbox Game Pass quests.

Tested Dice a Million out, thanks to Xbox Game Pass, and had a lot of fun with it. I believe it has the potential to be as addictive as Balatro.

Most interesting news of this week: The new Xbox has been officially teased, and it’s going to be a console-PC hybrid. I’m excited to see more about it.

Looking forward to playing: More Yakuza Kiwami 3 Dark Ties, Marvel Rivals and Dice a Million.

I’ve been playing Resident Evil Requiem this week, and wow. March isn’t even over yet, and it’s already shaping up to be a serious Game of the Year contender. From the atmosphere to the tension, it’s seriously impressive, but I won’t spoil anything here. If you want to know why it grabbed me so quickly, check out my full review [HERE]

Another game I’ve been playing for the past few weeks that I can now talk about is Mirage 7. You play as Nadira, travelling through a mysterious desert, exploring ruins, solving puzzles, and fighting creatures while searching for a legendary oasis. You can read my review [HERE]

When I’ve wanted something relaxing and chilled, I’ve been diving into Collector’s Cove. It’s incredibly easy to pick up and play, and I’ve had to be careful not to lose hours in a single session, because there’s always something new to do. Keep an eye out for my review coming on March 11th, don’t miss it.

Most interesting news of this week: Multiplayer shooter Highguard will shut down on March 12th, just weeks after its January release, developer Wildlight Entertainment announced. Despite a veteran team behind Call of Duty and Apex Legends, the free-to-play game struggled to retain players, and several staff members were laid off shortly after launch.

Looking forward to playing: Collector’s Cove and Manairons.
