Eyes on the Week (2nd-6th February)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Nothing new for me to mention here. This week, other than completing the weekly challenge mode in Phasmophobia, it’s been purely Overwatch. No, not Overwatch 2, as this has now been dropped from the title, and that’s not the only thing changing after watching the developer spotlight on Wednesday.

We’re getting five new heroes in Season 1 (JetPack Cat being the most unique and interesting one of the bunch), a brand-new, overhauled menu system, new collaborations, and even more! I’m nervous about the upcoming changes, but also excited to see what’s to come for the future of Overwatch. Illari mythic soon?!

Most interesting news of this week: The Overwatch Developer Spotlight!

Looking forward to playing: More Overwatch, returning to Contraband Police, and perhaps starting 1000xRESIST.

Most of my gaming time went into Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, which is perhaps the cosiest JRPG I’ve played in a long while. Sure, it cuts some corners and makes the game easier and more accessible, but that’s exactly what I needed right now, and not to have to check a FAQ or Guide every 30 minutes. Check Benny’s review [HERE]!

On the Switch, I played I Hate This Place, mostly to test the performance, as it’s not the most powerful device around. If you want to read more about the game, Derek has got you covered with a review which can be read [HERE]

On PC, I’ve been playing a ton of demos: Voidling Bound, Collector’s Cove, GRIDbeat, Helix: Descent N Ascent, Swan Song… all of them will participate in Steam Next Fest, and we’ll have an article for you soon with our recommendations. I hope some of these demos also make it to consoles as well. I know GRIDbeat is coming to Switch soon as a demo! Check out my VIDEO.

Most interesting news of this week: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is confirmed for June 3 on Nintendo Switch 2 & Xbox. I’m so happy we’re finally getting the missing FF titles on Xbox.

Looking forward to playing: I’ve got like 10 more demos installed already ahead of Steam Next Fest, and I’m eager to dive in.

This week, I played a little bit of a few Xbox Game Pass games to get some Microsoft Rewards points, such as Neon Abyss, Halls of Torment, and Kill it With Fire! 2.

I also continue to play Judgement, focusing a bit too much on side content, which is slowing down my main story progress. Marvel Rivals was also on my rotation again, but I’m playing it less than I was not long ago.

I’m playing Remnant II‘s DLCs with a friend; we did finish the main game a few weeks ago, and although I liked it, it wasn’t nearly as difficult or memorable as the first one for me, even though it has more variety in the worlds available. So far, the first DLC is reusing a lot from the main game, which is a bit disappointing.

Most interesting news of this week: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth being announced for Xbox.

Looking forward to playing: More Remnant II, and maybe something else if I find the time for it.

This week, nearly every spare moment has gone into playing Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. It’s a fantastic game, and I especially enjoyed how each story unfolds through distinct quests and memorable characters. After playing Tales of Xillia Remastered late last year (read my review [HERE]), I discovered a genre of gaming that truly resonates with me. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined consistently delivers a strong sense of adventure and discovery. Dive into my full review [HERE]

In between playing Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, I also spent some time with Hidden Cats in Christmas, which released this week after arriving on PC a few months earlier. I really enjoy these simple, relaxing games, and spotting all the hidden cats is always fun. This entry does seem a bit easier than previous games in the series, though.

Most interesting news of this week: Not gaming-related, but I became an uncle again a few days ago, and it feels amazing.

Looking forward to playing: Dispatch and I Hate This Place.
