Eyes on the Week (26th-30th January)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

I just beat I Hate This Place, a survival horror with a comic book style where even sounds are displayed as such, with thud-thud-thud as you walk or KABOOM! as you shoot. It’s got a lot of style, but could have used some extra polish. Still, I had fun until the credits and just came 2 achievements short of the full 1000G. Read Derek’s review [HERE]

I’m also continuing my adventures in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, and Benny is playing it too and will have a detailed review up on the site soon. But I can already say it’s a very good remake and a must-play Dragon Quest. Fans of JRPGs will not go hungry this year.

I also played some more Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and intend to complete it 100% for the first time (after two story runs on PS5 and Steam). I looooove the new accessibility features that make the game easier, especially because I can waltz through it like a speedrunner. Putting the 9999 dmg modifier on and then just using Barret’s default attack makes you feel like a GOD. Check my review [HERE]. So glad this is finally on Xbox.

On PC, I’ve been playing Hungry Horrors and Winnie’s Hole, two recent releases with an unusual take on the roguelike genre, and both of them are equally addictive. Hungry Horrors is a deckbuilder where you collect ingredients and recipes to feed horrors before they feast on you, and Winnie’s Hole is a twisted take on the children’s character, but now you play as an infection inside the yellow bear and use tetromino shapes to path your way through his innards and attack his woodland friends.

Most interesting news of this week: I’ll have a call next week to potentially help with the PR on a game that is at the very top of my current wishlist. So fingers crossed!

Looking forward to playing: More Dragon Quest VII.

My Samurai Academy Paws of Fury review has finally been published. You can read it [HERE]

I played a bit of PIGFACE, and it has been pretty interesting. With a lot of freedom on how to approach missions, guns and melee weapons, optional stealth and more, I’m really enjoying it so far.

I’m still playing Fable II, and it has been great to replay one of my favorite games of all time again. I’m thinking about giving Fable Anniversary a shot after I’m done with it, and maybe replaying Fable III afterwards.

I’m also still playing through Judgement, though not as much as before. I do intend on finishing it soon.

I also played a tiny bit of Hero Siege, Pixel Puzzles Ultimate Jigsaw Puzzles, Undermine, and Megabonk on my free day. Lastly, I played a bit of a multiplayer mod of Slay the Spire with a friend, and it was pretty fun!

Most interesting news of this week: The Switch 2 version of Dispatch is being censored, and the expected bad launch of Highguard.

Looking forward to playing: More Judgement, Fable II, PIGFACE, and likely Hytale with friends.

I’m continuing my playthrough of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined for my upcoming review. I can’t talk about it just yet, but watch this space.

I’ve also been playing Ball x Pit a little each day and have just unlocked a new level that’s much more challenging than the last. With a bit more grinding and some character levelling, I’m confident I’ll be moving on again soon.

A friend came over, and we played Worms W.M.D versus for the first time in a while. After several epic battles using our own custom rules, which make the game more fun and tactical, we ended up with a 4–4 tie.

Most interesting news of this week: With Final Fantasy VII Remake Now an Xbox Top Seller, Square Enix Director Confirms Rebirth and Part 3 Are Coming Too.

Looking forward to playing: Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and Dispatch Switch 2 Edition.

I got to try Winnie’s Hole and, let me tell you, it is HOOKING! The virus aspect added to the game is outstanding, and the battles really make you change your strategies. I can’t wait to pour more time into it.

I also got to play Escape From Ever After. The game feels like an Indie Paper Mario. I was so impressed with how much fun I was having. The humor is wonderful, and the gameplay is solid. I will be making a series on this for a channel, I’m sure.

Dwarves: Glory, Death, and Loot really surprised me with how good an autobattler roguelike it is. The dwarves running and bouncing into one another is such a solid view.

Most interesting news of this week: Highguard and all the hate. I played it a few times and, while not groundbreaking, I really enjoyed the game. It has a cool aspect and a really fun ceiling.

Looking forward to playing: I just got into the Outward 2 Playtest, so that will be a GEM to play.
