Eyes on the Week (25th-29th March)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

It’s been a rather rough week for me mentally but, as always, I retreat to video games for some well-needed relaxation and downtime. However, my first game, Deflector, this week has been challenging me and making me question my reaction time and lack of skill when it comes to roguelike games. I refuse to stop trying until I can beat my current progress in one life and I’m determined to make it to the end eventually. Then maybe, just maybe, I’ll get my review written up and published.

Disney Dreamlight Valley has taken a bit of a back seat this week. After completing the story, I’ve lost my sense of drive. I’m still completing quests for different characters and painfully making progress on my achievements but damn, it’s hard.

Thankfully, I’ve found my safe haven with simulation games this week. Gas Station Simulator was the first one I approached after watching Lewis play and I’ve managed to reach Reputation Level 7 if I remember correctly. Once again though, I’m now at the grindy section of the game after finishing the main story and need to push through the levels and hard grafting. I know when I get back on it, I won’t stop until I complete everything.

The real star of the show this week has been House Flipper. It has managed to keep me sane and give me something to work on. Aesthetics are a wonderful thing and it’s great when I get to renovate my own houses but when I’m doing jobs, I genuinely wonder what is going through some of these people’s minds when they give me their plans and layouts. Some of the colour combinations alone give me shivers. It’s still a fantastic game and knowing there is a second one coming out makes me even more happy! I hope one day I’m lucky enough to have my own place and be able to decorate and design everything exactly as I want.

Most interesting news of this week: For me, personally, the growing speculation of an Xbox handheld being in the works has piqued my curiosity. I would love to see what they could create!

Looking forward to playing: More House Flipper and my review games!

I’ve been playing various games again, most of my time went to Dragon’s Dogma 2, exploring the starting region, finding the best pawns to team up with and defeating some unlucky cyclops(es?).

On the Switch, I’ve been playing Princess Peach Showtime. Lovely production values: looks great, sounds great and fun variety in costumes and sets. But man, this game is a FOMO nightmare for completionists. You can’t replay parts of a level, only entire levels. So if you miss a collectible you have to replay the entire level from start to finish and that’s really boring with all the unskippable cutscenes.

Most interesting news of this week: I got to send out a press release for Zoochosis and seeing the huge numbers it’s doing is quite a rush.

Looking forward to playing: I should really get back to finishing FF7R, but Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the bigger elephant in the room.

This week has been heavily backloaded for me as last weekend and early this week I took some time to catch up on my studies. That said, I did sprinkle in the odd hour of Dragon’s Dogma 2 here and there before really getting back into it on Thursday. I spent most of my time so far with the Thief vocation, but found the mystic spearhand last night, which I’ll be using as my main vocation for this run. I’m really enjoying the sense of discovery and scale that Dragon’s Dogma 2 brings. The likes of which I last experienced in The Witcher 3.

The second game that dominated my week, aside from still doing my daily beast tribe quests in Final Fantasy XIV, has been Honkai Star Rail and its 2.1 update on Wednesday. An update that brought possibly the hardest banner cycle for me yet, with Acheron and rerunning Luocha on the banner right now, and Aventurine and Jingliu’s rerun on the next one. It’s a good thing I had some beefy Stellar Jade reserves or this would’ve made for some harsh decisions. I managed to bring Acheron home, but not after first losing my coin toss to Welt from the standard banner characters. Luckily, Luocha came very early after that, saving me from the worst. So right now, whether or not I’ll get Jingliu is up in the air, depending on whether or not I’ll win her coin toss. Oh, and my luck has been terrible when it comes to farming gear as of late.

Most interesting news of this week: Dragon’s Dogma was released and it had people committing casual in-game genocide for the sake of an improved frame rate. That’s the only thing that really stuck with me.

Looking forward to playing: Honestly, more Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Honkai Star Rail 2.1’s story.

I’ve been replaying Cyberpunk 2077 because I want to get to play its DLC Phantom Liberty. I’m probably one of the few people who didn’t regret preordering the game despite its faulty release and it’s been great coming back to it.

Most interesting news of this week: Probably Fortnite’s Prop Hunt release, my friends said it’s fun and want me to join them.

Looking forward to playing: More Cyberpunk 2077.
