Eyes on the Week (24th – 28th April)

Time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

As I’ve been exhausted this past week, I haven’t done too much. I’ve been playing Dead by Daylight as the new survivor, Nicolas Cage, arrived on Tuesday. The games have been alright but I’m gutted that the changes that have been made to The Onryō feel like a buff more than a nerf. Being able to teleport, slug, and mori is pretty annoying to engage with.

Other than Dead by Daylight, me and Lewis have also been making progress with completing Resident Evil 5. As we completed the campaign on Professional (Hardest difficulty) last night, it’s just a case of completing the miscellaneous achievements we missed and going through the extra content – Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape.

Last but not least, I have played small amounts of Oxide Room 104, Catlateral Damage: Remeowstered, and An Evil Existence but these were mostly played in order to obtain the remaining medals I had left to achieve on TrueAchievements. All are completed now!

Most exciting news of this week: Not really ‘exciting’ but everyone is talking about the new X app, formally known as Twitter. It has somewhat baffled me as to why such a well-known brand has been changed but I guess it’s just something many of us will get used to over time. Nicolas Cage is finally in Dead by Daylight and his perks are something else. The new TrueAchievements medals have been announced for August. I’ve also just read about Eiyuden Chronicles: Thousand Years being delayed until Q2 2024 which I was really looking forward to – I’ll just have to wait a little while longer.

Looking forward to playing: More Resident Evil 5, Dead by Daylight, Oxide Room 104, and TT Isle of Man: Ride on the Edge 3.

Was away on holidays for most of the week and didn’t have my Xbox with me. But I did bring the Switch and played Advance Wars 1+2 reboot camp (amazing game, check my review [HERE]) and started Final Fantasy Theathrythm, a game I already knew I was going to love.

When I got back, I just played some Goldeneye for daily achievements/MS rewards and also installed Chicory and Toem from Game Pass.

Most exciting news of this week: Apparently aliens exist. Either that or Starfield is launching one hell of a promotional campaign.

Looking forward to playing: I’m still trying to complete Final Fantasy XVI, currently at 76%.

Colombo

Finished playing Maquette, which has been added to Xbox Game Pass recently, and thought it was good, but I expected it to be better. Started Punchclub, but I don’t think I’ll be playing it again soon, maybe in the future.

I’m currently playing Eastward, it’s a beautiful RPG with a good soundtrack, and the story has been pretty interesting so far.

Most exciting news of this week: On a personal note, going back to studying as my technical course vacation is over. I haven’t kept up with gaming news, but there’s a rumour going around about Red Dead Redemption getting remastered, I’m cautiously interested, considering GTA SA’s remaster…

Looking forward to playing: More Eastward and possibly other games.

It’s not been a very impressive week when it comes to games played. A lot of this has to do with welcoming a kitten into the household, who requires lots of love and attention after work. That said, I spent the majority of my time with Master Detective Archives: Rain Code and am getting close to the end. You can look forward to my review of the game sometime soon.

When I wasn’t solving mysteries on the switch, I was back in Final Fantasy XIV‘s Eorzea as the Warrior of Light. I’ve been taking on the new variant dungeon, Mount Rokkon, which offers lots of replayability with its branching paths. I’ve still got a lot of them to explore, party willing that is, so I’ll be taking my time with that.

And I’ve also been playing Honkai Star Rail during moments of downtime. I’ve moved onto world level 5, bumping the difficulty and material grind up a notch again. I missed my 50% chance of pulling the limited Character Blade from the banner, but at least I’m guaranteed to unlock Kafka on the next one.

Most exciting news of this week: The Final Fantasy XIV fanfest in Las Vegas has just opened at the time of writing and revealed that the 7.0 expansion will be Dawntrial. It’s coming in the summer of 2024, so there’s that to look forward to.

Looking forward to playing: Final Fantasy XIV after seeing what’s coming next.

Stu

Not much gaming over the last 3/4 weeks on account of a long-needed time away but this week I started Tales of Arise feeding that JRPG addiction and staving off the FOMO that is not having a PS5 and not being able to play Final Fantasy XVI as a result.

Most exciting news of this week: Aliens!!! (With that meme of the ancient aliens’ guy)

Looking forward to playing: Without sounding like a broken record and saying Final Fantasy XVI constantly I’ll go as far and say Balders Gate 3.

Genethical

First and foremost, I wrapped up Middle-Earth Shadow of War, at least as far as I’m concerned. The last chapter isn’t worth playing in a traditional fashion thanks to our good old friends acquaintances’ live service microtransactions.

With that one out of the way, and thanks to some power cuts in my city and me being out of the house, I ended up deep in Persona 5 Royal. Now I’m starting to see what all the fuss is about, but man… JRPGs just don’t hit like they used to, for me.

Most exciting news of this week: I feel like I’ve been isekai’d into a Choose Your Own Dystopia book. Google trying to push a standard for browsers that aims to control the way in which the common public accesses the web. Google again, trying to fight Adblockers on Youtube, to a catastrophic response from audiences (and have you noticed that they give you a popup to sign up for Premium at a ‘special discount just for you’ if you watch something without being signed in now?) Then we have our expert in brands, Mr. Musk, adding yet another nail in Twitter’s X’s coffin. Why doesn’t he marry the letter X if he likes it so much? Oh yeah, and some weird cultists from OpenAI will ask you to ponder their orb in exchange for coloured mirrors… I mean crypto. Don’t do it.

Looking forward to playing: Some more Persona 5 Royal would be good. Gimme some slice of life to escape this hellhole… And I guess DOOM too. Something something hellspawns.
