Eyes on the Week (22nd-26th August)

Time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

The majority of my week has been spent playing Garden Gnomes, Garden Gnomes 2, and Garden Gnomes 3. I’ve just been addicted to them and it has allowed me to take a break from the genres I’m used to playing. Something different grabbed my attention and, although you spend each game doing the exact same things, I just can’t stop playing them. I’ve been slowly making progress in Taiko no Tatsujin: The Drum Master each day too as this will be a long completion. I also played Escape Sequence last night and finished it today. I’m more than happy to see the back of that game if I’m honest until the next title update.

Most exciting news of this week: This has to be all the announcements I watched being revealed at Gamescom! I’m especially excited for New Tales from the Borderlands, The Outlast Trials (hoping it won’t be a PC exclusive), Atlas Fallen, and Lords of the Fallen.

Looking forward to playing: More Garden Gnomes 3 and moving on to the other games in the sequel. SMITE to perhaps try out the new God Ishtar and I’m eyeing up Chorus as well.

I played a whole load of things. At home, right before leaving for Gamescom, I managed to get an hour of Saints Row in (Gameplay here) and while it has its flaws, I still had a great time. At Gamescom, I played interesting demos from Alone in the DarkLies of P (more on this later in my preview, but here is a playthrough to show you why I’m excited about it), Outcast 2 (Belgian!), Big shots (also Belgian, but VR!), the new Spongebob game but also Gori: Cuddly Carnage, which really managed to exceed expectations too, and yes, I have gameplay for that too: watch it here.

Most exciting news of this week: I’m at Gamescom, and everything feels like the best news right now. I’m riding a 4 day-hype.

Looking forward to playing: Pokémon shield, in my bed, as it’s 3:30 AM here in Germany and I should really get some sleep and Pokémon is one of those games that helps to calm me.

I wasn’t able to play much during this week, but I did manage to finish playing South of the Circle for my next review, which is coming as soon as I can write it.

Most exciting news of this week: It was cool to see Dead Island 2 being re-revealed at Gamescom

Looking forward to playing: Not 100% sure yet, but I think I’ll be continuing GTA IV after I’m done writing my review

I didn’t really play all that much at home, fully anticipating getting my fix at Gamescom over the week. What I did do was prepare my Final Fantasy XIV character even more for my incoming upgrade to a full account. At this point my fishing is also up to the level cap of 60, making me as close as I can get to my aspirations of being an omnicrafter for the time being.

For the rest of this week, I’m also at Gamescom! I keep a daily diary, which I hope you’ll all like. So you can read all about the games and what I’m up to in those.

Most exciting news of this week: I’m at Gamescom! Aside from that Final Fantasy XIV released its 6.2 update, which I’m excited about.

Looking forward to playing: I’ve got a fast pass for the THQ NORDIC booth where I’ll give Outcast 2 a try.
