Eyes on the Week (21st-25th July)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

As per last week, my mood hasn’t improved, and I’ve had next to no energy this week. It’s made gaming feel like a chore, meaning I’ve played the bare minimum.

I did play a couple of games of Family Feud with Lewis. My problem with Family Feud is that the answers are based on American surveys, which means you have to think outside the box a little to even stand a chance at getting some answers on the board. Oh, and apparently ‘Car Crash’ and ‘Crashing’ aren’t close enough to get the correct answer ‘Crash’, which infuriated me. Still, some of the answers are ridiculously laughable, so it does manage to put a smile on my face occasionally.

To keep my achievement streak going, I’ve been playing Spray Paint Simulator daily. I’m around halfway through the bridge level, but have been going back to previously completed levels to obtain missable and miscellaneous achievements. It’s nowhere near as fun as Powerwash Simulator, as I got way more satisfaction cleaning grime than painting, but it’s something I can mindlessly do to pass the time.

Most interesting news of this week: VShojo, an American Talent Agency that promoted VTuber content creators, is shutting down following Ironmouse, the founding member, stating the company owed $500K in revenue to charity, leading to all its members leaving the company.

Looking forward to playing: Nothing right now. There’s a bunch of games on my wishlist I’m debating getting while the sale is still ongoing. So perhaps one of them.

I’ve beaten Patapon 1 on PS5 and moved on to Patapon 2 Replay, which is a lot more fun but is giving me massive FOMO at every choice I make. The great news is that it did carry over materials from playing the first game, which saves me a lot of grinding!

On Xbox, I’ve started playing My Friendly Neighborhood, which was just ported over. It’s like Bioshock + Resident Evil + Sesame Street. I like a lot of it, but the inventory management is a pain, some of the achievements seem tedious, and the combat is annoying (especially with respawning enemies and limited ammo). Expect my review soon, but until then, here is a playthrough video!

On Nintendo Switch 2, I’m playing Donkey Kong Bananza, and it’s amazing. I’ll be sinking dozens of hours into completing this one. I like it better than the 3D Mario games, which says a lot!

Most interesting news of this week: Collective Shout is an organisation starting a wave of censorship pleas and is using their connection with large payment institutions like VISA and MasterCard and PayPal to get what they want. The result: lots of games removed from Steam, even more from itch (even blocking access to them to people who paid to own them) and a few writer friends who quit their job at VICE because their articles reporting on this got taken down and they want to take a stand against censorship.

Looking forward to playing: All of the games mentioned above!

This week, I played a little bit more of Monster Train and Monster Train 2 again for Xbox Game Pass quest reasons. This time, I started feeling tired of them. I don’t think I’ll get back to playing them anytime soon. I also played some more Resident Evil 4 Remake‘s DLC: Separate Ways, and I may finish it soon, but I can’t be sure yet.

I started playing My Friendly Neighborhood, and it’s been a pretty fun game, feeling like a Sesame Street/Resident Evil crossover that’s actually a good combination.

Most interesting news of this week: Nothing comes to mind.

Looking forward to playing: More My Friendly Neighborhood and Separate Ways.

Missi

Finished Misc. A Tiny Tale this week, what an excellent game! I really love this one. Beautiful platformer adventure game. And it looks so adorable. I love seeing our world from a different perspective. and the small robots having other names for items than we use, but they still describe them.

I also finished 20 Minutes Till Dawn. I love that this one isn’t as long as Vampire Survivor, as it has less content, but it was still a lot of fun.

I’ve also played a lot of Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream. This is one of the first top-down stealth games I’m playing, and I love it! It feels totally different from a 3D stealth game, but still requires the same attention span from you. And this one is especially special in its appearance and the story. You learn a great deal about the world by listening to conversations between guards and citizens while sneaking past them.

Most interesting news of this week: The new search layout, currently in beta on Steam. It promises some dandy features, such as being able to search on specific tags and showing games you have watched before in the results. However, it should also feature popular games, which worries me a bit for all the smaller (and thus less well-known) indie games. Will this make reviews even more critical, or does it base the results purely on the number of people searching for a specific game?

Looking forward to playing: Finishing ‘Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream’, only one chapter to go. I’m also looking forward to trying out ‘The King is Watching.’

I finished The Precinct, a fun game with plenty of action where you play as a rookie cop. Despite some repetitive tasks, there’s so much to do as you chase down criminals and clean up the streets. You can read my review [HERE]

I’ve started playing Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines, the sequel to Grapple Dog, which was released a few years ago. It’s a charming platformer with plenty of colour and non-stop action as you swing and grapple through each stage. I’ll be covering this in my next review.

Most interesting news of this week: Techland has announced that Dying Light: The Beast has been delayed by four weeks to allow for additional refinement, saying, ‘We’ve learned just how crucial that first impression really is’.

Looking forward to playing: Grapple Dogs: Cosmic Canines, Final Fantasy XVI and a few games on Apex Legends.
