Eyes on the Week (1st-5th June)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? And what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions! We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

This week was rather stressful, but thankfully, I had a few games to make the week feel a little more relaxed. First, I returned to Diablo III – Reaper of Souls as I got a little burnt out on Diablo IV, so I decided to start a new Necromancer character and delve into the story again. I managed to get to Level 20, but I’m yet to make it past the first act. The build is fun, but I do find my character to be a little squishy if I’m not careful. I intend to play through the entire campaign, and then I’ll decide what I would like to do next.

Lewis and I returned to Labyrinthine to get reacquainted with the controls and gameplay, as we have decided we would like to return and earn the completion. It means going through the campaign again, doing specific tasks, and earning a ton of tokens, but I’m sure we’ll do it in time.

On Steam Deck, I have continued my playthrough of Swan Song this week and now find myself over halfway through. As this is a review game, I’ll go into more detail when I write it up.

Most interesting news of this week: The Summer Games Fest, Xbox Showcase, Wholesome Games Show, and the Future Games Show Summer Showcase 2026 were all incredible to watch with plenty of games to interest pretty much everyone, no matter what genre you prefer. There were quite a few I’m interested in, but the best news? Xbox exclusives are back!

Looking forward to playing: A replica of this week with some Overwatch sprinkled in.

I’ve been playing Yoshi and the Mysterious Book as my main game over the past two weeks, but in short bursts of 30 minutes, and I feel that’s how the game is best enjoyed. I’ll have a full review for you soon, but oddly enough, I’m still conflicted myself with how I feel about it…

I’ve also been testing Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as an Xbox port, and while I’m super happy we have all the mainline titles on our main platform now, I’m also a bit upset about how the port is inferior to the PS5 release from a few years ago. It’s still a great game and a must-play JRPG. You can check my full review [HERE]

Swan Song was also released just now, and I’ve not even beaten the full game yet, despite it not being a long game. I enjoy the storytelling in it, but the puzzles aren’t for me. They became too difficult halfway through, and I had to resort to trial and error. Guess I’m not cut out for puzzle games after all.

Finally, on Steam Deck, I’ve been playing a ton of Voidling Bound, but I’m still under embargo. But go play the demo, and you’ll already see how amazing this will be. Definitely one of the surprise hits of the summer!

Most interesting news of this week: Out of all the news from the past week, I think I’m most excited about seeing a new Spyro. It’s been too long! And we have a name + release date for FF7 part 3!!

Looking forward to playing: More Voidling Bound, and after that, I’ll dive into some demos on Steam. I wish I had more time to finally start Forza Horizon 6, though.

I’m still playing Resident Evil Requiem, and it has been great despite me being very scared when playing as Grace. I’m pretty sure I’ve played through the scariest parts already, though, so I should be ok now.

I also played a little bit more of Marvel Rivals with friends again, as well as a bit more of Xbox Game Pass games such as Brotato, Absolum, Minecraft Dungeons, and Replaced.

I’m still playing my review game, and it has been fun, but I’m having a little difficulty with it as of right now.

At last, I decided to give the Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo a go. Although I liked it, I had to lower the difficulty to beat the boss available in it, as I just wanted to get it over quickly, and I wasn’t learning when I should’ve blocked and when I should’ve dodged his attacks.

Most interesting news of this week: The Summer Games Fest and PlayStation showcase showed us quite a few interesting games from returning series to new IPs.

Looking forward to playing: More of my review game, Minecraft Dungeons, Resident Evil Requiem, possibly Marvel Rivals and more if I find the time for them.

I completed Luna Abyss last weekend and came away really impressed. The gameplay was enjoyable throughout, and the game’s lore did a great job of keeping me invested in the world and its mysteries. My biggest criticism is the lack of variety when it comes to enemies and weapons, which can make encounters feel a little repetitive over time. Even so, the weapon system helps keep combat fresh, encouraging you to swap between weapons to deal with different enemy shield types and preventing combat from feeling stale.

I have also been playing Mina the Hollower, a dark gothic tale about a brilliant inventor returning to the monster-ridden Tenebrous Isle to repair the malfunctioning machines she once created. After her arrival goes disastrously wrong, she’s stranded on the island and must face the consequences of her technology, using a combination of weapons, tools, and her unique ability to burrow underground to uncover secrets and overcome the many dangers in her path. It also features retro-inspired visuals in the style of classic action-adventure games. You can read my review [HERE]

I also started playing 007 First Light, although I’ve only completed the opening mission so far. Even in that short time, it delivered exactly what I was hoping for, capturing the feel and tone of a classic Bond experience.

Most interesting news of this week: A remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica was announced at Summer Game Fest. Originally a Dreamcast release, it follows Claire Redfield as she’s trapped on a remote island during a deadly Umbrella-linked outbreak, with Chris Redfield also drawn into the crisis. It’s set to release in 2027.

Looking forward to playing: Realm of Ink and 007 First Light.
