Eyes on the Week (19th-23rd January)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Yes, it’s me, back with the same games as the last two weeks yet again.

Overwatch 2 is my go-to game right now because, even after 100+ hours on Illari, I’m still learning and adapting my playstyle to better suit certain situations. I’ve finally reached Level 60 and have the shiny gold border, and I managed to complete my placements. It’s the first time I’ve been in Platinum, and I was overjoyed, to say the least. Plus, what’s with the “Talon Takeover” that’s happening right now?! I’m excited to see what’s coming.

Also, Lewis and I have continued to play Phasmophobia. We’ve been completing the weekly challenges for achievement purposes and playing our regular map rotation. I’m still learning, but I have no confidence when it comes to looping the ghost or capturing all the relevant evidence. I would rather dip and just go again!

Most interesting news of this week: Talon taking over Overwatch 2 could be interesting. Also, the Xbox Showcase. Forza Horizon 6 looks incredible, and I’m also looking forward to playing Fable when it releases in Autumn.

Looking forward to playing: More Overwatch 2 and Phasmophobia. I’ll also be looking for another game to play in the daytime.

I’m so happy that Final Fantasy VII Remake is finally out on Xbox; that it took 6 whole years is a shame, but it’s finally here. And I’m super excited to play it to completion, for the 3rd time, as one of my favourite games ever. I could go on and on here about what makes it so amazing, but even better would be reading my review [HERE]

I’ve also been playing more of Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles and the stories in it have especially surprised me; they reminded me a lot of Lost Odyssey and how the immortals have seen humanity through the years. Very impressive writing!

And I’ve also spent a ton of time in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, which has a 4hr+ demo out now, and I can only tell you that it gets even better from there. We’ll have a review for you very soon with more details!

Most interesting news of this week: Forza Horizon 6 is coming on May 19th. It’ll be installed from then on for years to come!

Looking forward to playing: Dragon Quest VII Reimagined.

After a long break from work & games, I finally sat down to try out this month’s PlayStation Plus games, and decided to go for It Takes Two.

The only other game I’ve played by Haze Light is “A Way Out”, a tale of two brothers who escape from prison. At the time, I had never seen or heard of friend passes before, and I thought it was a unique take on how two-player story-focused games were handled. Each side had their own path to walk in different areas to make sure that the escape went off without a hitch. It had a great story, lovable characters, and was a win for a dying EA at the time. Several years later, I’ve now found myself playing catch-up.

First off, what an amazing story it has. Quite an emotional one as well. Two parents who have seemingly lost their love for each other, and spend their time fighting in front of their only child, ignoring the emotional impact it’s having on her. Desperate for her parents to reconnect, she wishes for them to love each other again, and overnight, the parents find themselves trapped inside the bodies of two wooden toy figures. They must now work together to break the spell and get back to their daughter and their real bodies. On the surface, it sounded a little cliché, but it’s extremely well done, and the level design & gameplay mechanics only make it that much more exciting.

Let me say, I have NEVER been so addicted to a game in one sitting before. Out of the 12 hours it takes to finish the game, 6 of those hours were spent just last night working my way through it, completely in awe at the introduction of new mechanics in each chapter, the extremely fun boss fights, and the different scenarios myself and my friend found ourselves in to tackle the obstacles in our path.

I am genuinely in love with this game, and it’s sad to think that when it’s over, I’ll never experience that feeling of being captivated again.

Most interesting news of this week: Silent Hill The Movie is out, along with Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Xbox & Nintendo Switch.

Looking forward to playing: More It Takes Two.

I’ve finally finished playing Samurai Academy: Paws of Fury, I’ll get into detail in my review that will be coming shortly, but in short: it had problems, but it was fun to play it.

I’m also currently playing Fable II for at least the 5th time in my life. I did get a few easy achievements I missed, but I don’t think I’ll be getting all of them, as some require co-op play and others will be a hassle to get.

I also played a little bit more of Judgement. It has been a fun, and still similar experience to the Yakuza series, with a few differences, but not many.

I’m still playing Marvel Rivals with my friends a few times throughout the week. I’m enjoying it quite a bit, despite not really playing many multiplayer games lately.

Most interesting news of this week: Xbox’s Developer Direct showing the new Fable, which is looking interesting

Looking forward to playing: More Fable II, Judgement, and Marvel Rivals.

Most of my time this week has been spent playing a game for an upcoming review that I can’t talk about just yet, but I’m looking forward to sharing more when I can.

I’ve continued playing a little of Ball x Pit every morning for my Game Pass Rewards quests, and while progress is slow, it’s very addictive and never boring.

On the Switch 2, I’ve had a few online races in Mario Kart World knockout mode, and I’m still chasing my first-place victory.

I’ve also started Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition and have been playing through the opening of the game. So many memories from my first time playing years ago came flooding back, and it’s never looked better. I’ve mostly been playing in handheld mode when I’m out of the house, and the screen and sound are genuinely impressive.

Most interesting news of this week: Xbox held a Developer Direct, spotlighting gameplay and updates for four upcoming titles: Forza Horizon 6, Fable, Beast of Reincarnation, and Kiln. The showcase revealed that Forza Horizon 6 will release on May 19th, sooner than many fans expected. The event offered deeper looks at each game’s world and mechanics, setting the tone for Xbox’s 2026 lineup with a mix of racing, fantasy, action RPG, and quirky multiplayer fun.

Looking forward to playing: Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Resident Evil Requiem.
