Eyes on the Week (17th-21st August)

It’s time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? And what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions! We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Firstly, my apologies for not posting an ‘Eyes on the Week’ article last week. I’ve been enjoying some relaxation time, and the time just slipped past me. Before I get into this week’s gaming, I have to mention that Lewis and I completed Palworld! It was a fantastic experience, and I look forward to completing my Palpedia and what future updates may bring.

This week, I’ve played a large handful of games. Starting with Overwatch, I completed my Competitive 6v6 placements and ended up in the new rank, Emerald, but in Emerald 1, thankfully. I’m hopeful I’ll make my way back to Diamond, but most of all, I’m happy I got Illari’s Crimson Wolf skin and weapon skin to match. Lewis and I have also dived into some quickplay, which has been very hit or miss. D.Mon, the new tank hero, looks great and isn’t a headache to play against, so that’s a plus!

Next, singleplayer games. I started Dead Space Remake, but only completed the first chapter because I wasn’t quite feeling it at the time. I plan to try it again next week. Secondly, I played Mafia: Definitive Edition on Series S|X. The story and gameplay are excellent, despite the terrible driving. I’m looking forward to playing the game on Classic difficulty, but that could be something I live to regret saying.

Finally, Lewis and I decided to play Directive 8020. We are on the penultimate chapter, and unfortunately killed off multiple characters. It feels much harder to keep people alive, but overall, I really dislike the direction Supermassive Games have taken with this game for more reasons than I care to list. I would go as far to say that it’s the worst game they’ve made to date, which I hate to say, but that’s how I feel. Maybe the last chapter will redeem itself, but I’m extremely doubtful.

Most interesting news of the week: The Xbox X McDonald’s collaboration in the UK and Ireland gives me the chance to get a Kiriko donut emote in Overwatch. I’m also interested in Runescape: Dragonwilds, which is coming to Xbox Game Pass day one!

Looking forward to playing: Finishing off Directive 8020 and Mafia, continuing with more Overwatch, and revisiting the Dead Space Remake.

I’ve been having a great time with Duskfade; it’s such a beautiful game that feels like it’s from the simpler PS2 days, but in all the right ways. I wish I had made more progress already, but I’m taking it slow and enjoying myself, plus work/family life doesn’t leave a lot of free time for me at the moment.

Right before bedtime, I like to play a few rounds of a roguelike game, and currently that is Ball X Pit, but I have to admit, I’m not as in love as I thought I would be. I keep falling asleep, which means the second-to-second gameplay is not activating me enough. Unlike Ring of Pain, where I find myself playing 5 rounds back-to-back and unable to stop. I just don’t see enough progress in between levels in Ball X Pit, and the breakout ball bouncing gameplay isn’t as fun as I thought it would be. And this comes from someone with a recent Peglin addiction.

On Nintendo Switch, I’m still checking out the new Pokémon Pokopia DLC and ready to sink a dozen more hours into it. It’s such a great game to pick up and play for a few minutes every day, and it adds up quick. Not a huge fan of the underwater setting & movement though.

Most interesting news of the week: We’re back in contact with Xbox and will be getting more titles from them to review. Some of you may have noticed we didn’t cover Forza Horizon 6 or Halo Campaign Evolved, because we were missing access to those titles. That has been rectified now, and you can count on reading reviews for them soon.

Looking forward to playing: Duskfade mostly, and all the cool new games I’ll get to play at Gamescom 2026, like [REDACTED], [REDACTED] and [SUPER REDACTED].

This week I finished getting all achievements on LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and played through Batman Arkham City‘s DLC, which was visually very buggy in the Return to Arkham Remaster, making Batman and other objects turn invisible, which was very funny to see. I started playing through Batman Arkham Knight, and it is as great as I remember it being so far, with a lot of details and welcome additions.

I also played a little bit of Fortnite with friends, as a new season has started. I want to get Sora’s skin when it becomes available, and I have plenty of V-Bucks since I never used the ones my Game Pass Ultimate gave me. Halls of Torment was back as my Game Pass game of choice, and I’m still discovering new classes and having fun with it.

Most interesting news of the week: Twisted Tower released with pretty good reviews; I’m looking forward to playing it in the future.

Looking forward to playing: More Fortnite, Marvel Rivals, Halls of Torment, Batman Arkham Knight, and possibly going back to The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles this week.

This week I’ve been playing Akatori on Xbox. It’s a new Metroidvania action-platformer that blends 2D pixel art with 3D environments. You play as Mako, a young battle monk, alongside Akuri, a magical red bird sealed inside her versatile staff, as they journey across distinct worlds to stop toxic amber storms. You can check out my review [HERE]!

I’ve also continued playing BOKURA with Aaron, and we’ve just reached the end. It’s definitely a game of two halves, with things becoming more challenging towards the end and a few frustrations creeping in. You can read the review [HERE]

I started playing Dodo Duckie, where you switch perspectives between 2D and 3D to solve environmental puzzles. On the surface, it looks like a game aimed at younger players, with its cute, colourful worlds and animal characters, but some of the spatial and perspective-based puzzles have really challenged me. I’ve found myself saying, “There’s no way that works,” only for it to turn out to be the solution. Overall, I enjoyed my time playing, despite a few difficulty spikes; you can read my full review [HERE]

Most interesting news of the week: Mafia: Definitive Edition has just received a free 60FPS update on Xbox and PlayStation. If you already own a digital copy on Xbox One or PS4, you’ll also receive the new version for free.

Looking forward to playing: The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition, Duskfade and Mexican Ninja.
