Eyes on the Week (15th-19th May)

Time to look back on the week we’ve just had! What did the weekdays look like for our writers? What was the biggest news from the week? and what are we looking forward to playing during the upcoming weekend? Our Eyes on the Week article will answer all three of these questions!

We’re curious about your opinion and played games, so be sure to share your stuff on our social media channels!

Slowly but surely I’ve been getting back to normal and my arm has almost recovered from its reaction. I’ve only managed to play Sudocats for my daily achievement to keep my streak going but the game itself is incredibly relaxing to play, making the purrfect (I couldn’t help myself) company while I’ve been recovering.

I also played slightly more Swordbreaker: Origins and published my review yesterday. If you have some spare time to give it a read, the link can be found [HERE] and it would be very much appreciated. I then started my next review game called Saga of Sins. I’m interested to see what this game is all about and will be sharing my views at some time next week.

While I’ve been unable to play Xbox for most of the week though, I have rekindled my love for Pokémon GO and have found myself catching all types of new Pokémon, taking on some nearby gyms, and gradually completing my quests. I keep running out of Poke Balls though so I’m constantly opening my gifts at 00:01 AM to get more!

Most exciting news of this week: The Expanse: A Telltale Series being announced, Nicholas Cage coming to Dead by Daylight, and the exciting talk of Stray coming to Xbox. You best believe I’ll be playing the latter immediately!

Looking forward to playing: Saga of Sins, DE-EXIT – Eternal Matters, and my other review games if I have time. Just about getting back on track!

I’ve been playing a ton of indies lately, even passing up review opportunities for games like Tears of the Kingdom so I can finish my reviews.

You’ll soon get to read my impression of Lost in Play, a great point & click adventure game on the Switch. A little bit later I’ll be writing about Planet of Lana, which is coming to Xbox Game Pass, but I’ve had the pleasure to dive in early. If I can lift the veil on one thing already, it’s that I truly love the music!

And other than that, I’ve been playing some new Steam demos of games still under embargo, so not that much I can share at the moment.

I did get a brand new projector (BenQ X3000i) to review for LifeIsXbox, so maybe keep an eye on my Twitter for some sneak peeks while I put the hardware to the test!

Most exciting news of this week: The European Commission approved the Activision Blizzard deal, mostly hope this will go through so we can all stop reporting on it

Looking forward to playing: Mostly looking forward to testing the new projector some more, it’s quite amazing!

This week I started off by playing 2 review games. Herodes and Urbek City Builder. Both are fairly small games so look out for those reviews next week for my final thoughts.

My gaming then took a turn towards two recently released titles. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and The Outlast Trials. While I initially thought Zelda would be my go-to game this week, turned out to be quite the opposite. Despite launching in Early Access, The Outlast Trials is one perfect game. Red Barrels studio has managed to take everything that made Outlast scary and cram it into a multiplayer online horror game. It has one of the best intros I have ever seen in a game. The entire game oozes with atmosphere and makes for a great way to spend your evening with friends. I highly recommend picking this one up.

Most exciting news of this week: Nic Cage coming to Dead by Daylight.

Looking forward to playing: Zelda TOTK, and The Outlast Trials.

This past week I had the flu and mostly lay in bed sleeping. If I didn’t then I was playing on my Steam Deck, I’m so thankful that this awesome device exists! I played Godlike Burger, a game that combines all sorts of genres and themes I love.

I also played a bit of Death or Treat, a rogue-lite with cool artwork. I’m not totally convinced yet, as it has a lot of grinding for resources to buy upgrades, other than that it is a nice game.

Most exciting news of this week: Of course, the biggest news was about Xbox and the European Commission, but to add something different to this week’s news… I loved the Humble Games showcase, so many awesome games coming our way. I love how many unique and awesome indie games are announced and released.

Looking forward to playing: I’m still a bit under the weather, so I think I’ll try out “Void Scrappers” on my Steam Deck when I’m finished to catch up with work.

Genethical

I’m still alive. I haven’t popped my head around here in a while but I’ve still been playing some things when I have the time. For example, much like everyone else and their mothers, I’ve been playing some Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Definitely not nearly as much as I’d like, as I have many, many ideas for automated monstrosities but I need to acquire the materials and sufficient battery power to feed them.

The attention to detail in that game is simply stunning and there are so many quests available everywhere. I literally walked into a random building at one point, waited for some people to arrive, and as they got talking, an issue arose that turned into a quest for me!

Other than that, I’ve played The Case of the Golden Idol, a very interesting detective puzzle game in which you follow, get this, the Case of the Golden Idol! A mysterious statue that exhibits mystical powers. You also follow the chaos its presence causes around those interested in having it and their research into discovering how it works and how best to use it for their benefit. It rides that line between obscure and difficult enough that makes you feel smart once you solve a level, but it doesn’t leave you so in the dark that you feel lost. I can easily recommend this game to anyone who likes solving mysteries.

Most exciting news of this week: The European Commission has agreed to the Microsoft – Activision/Blizzard merger. Of course, this still leaves the UK’s decision up in the air and the US seems to be standing against it, the latter are even suing to block it. What happens from here is anyone’s guess.

Looking forward to playing: More Tears of the Kingdom, baby! Also some Outward, I’m already in DLC land, literally.
