I have only spent a handful of hours in Divinity Original Sin 2, but even with limited time in Rivellon, this new Xbox Series X update gave me the perfect reason to return. The game already had a strong reputation, and seeing it receive a technical refresh made me curious to see how it feels on modern hardware. The improvements are not dramatic or showy, but they genuinely lift the experience in a way that feels more comfortable and more enjoyable to play.
A Smoother 60FPS Experience
The biggest upgrade is the jump to 60FPS on both Xbox Series X and Series S. The original console versions were locked to 30FPS, so this is a noticeable improvement.
Combat feels more responsive, camera movement is smoother, and exploring the world has a more natural flow. Even though Divinity is a turn based game, the extra fluidity helps you read the battlefield more clearly and makes the whole experience feel more modern.
Cleaner Visuals Across the Board
Larian has not released a detailed breakdown of the graphical changes, but the improvements are easy to spot once you start playing.
- The image looks sharper on a 4K screen.
- Textures appear cleaner, especially on characters and environmental details.
- Lighting feels more stable and consistent.
- There is less shimmering on fine details like foliage and armour edges.
It still looks like Divinity Original Sin 2, but it now feels more at home on current hardware.
Faster Loading and a Smaller Install Size
One pleasant surprise is that the Series X version takes up less storage space than the old Xbox One X build. It is not a huge difference, but it is always nice to save a bit of SSD space. Loading times also feel quicker, which helps keep the pace steady when moving between areas.
It is also worth noting that anyone who owns the game on Xbox One can install this updated version for free. I always appreciate it when older purchases carry forward without any fuss.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Since this update arrived without much build up, I went in with an open mind and paid attention to how it performed on Xbox Series X. During my time with the game, I did not run into any major issues. The performance felt steady, the visuals looked clean, and everything behaved as expected. I cannot speak for every mode or every situation, but based on my own experience, the update ran smoothly and never pulled me out of the adventure.
Why This Update Matters
For me, this update arrived at the perfect time. I have always been interested in Baldur’s Gate 3, but before diving into something that large, I wanted to get a feel for Larian’s style of combat and storytelling. This upgrade gave me the push I needed to finally try Divinity Original Sin 2 properly. The smoother performance and cleaner visuals make it much easier to settle into the world, and it feels like a great starting point for anyone who is curious about Larian’s games but has not taken the plunge yet.
Final Thoughts
This update does not reinvent Divinity Original Sin 2, but it refreshes it in all the right ways. The jump to 60FPS makes the game feel more alive, and the visual improvements help the world shine on modern displays. For returning players, it is a lovely excuse to start a new adventure. For newcomers like me, this is the best version of the game on Xbox and a great introduction to what makes Larian’s RPGs so special.
